The 2835R turbos are probably the limiting factor on the R33 at the moment. They were chosen because on a 3 litre engine with 9.1:1 comp they give strong top end power & also come on boost relatively quickly - making the car very responsive for street use.

Now the car has morphed into a race car(is awesome on the street - but who am I kidding - it's no daily driver) the smallish turbos limit the current setup to around 850-900 hp.

I would like to fit 3037S & remap the motec to suit which should see the output raised to 1000hp without ringing it's neck - but

no-one has put their hand up for the 2835Rs & without selling them I can not upgrade.Larger turbos would increase lag, but on a car that rarely sees less than 7000rpm that would not be an issue.I would like to see the car run a 9.4 as it is - but drag racing is a funny thing. 9.6 might be where it's at, & thats fine.

Slicks would definately be faster.Possibly by 4or 5 tenths, but create other problems. For a start, there are 2 classes for GTRs -

"street drag GTR" running radial tyres (Nittos) or "Pro GTR" running slicks. It is much more than a simple tyre swap.To run slicks you must run 15" rims, which means removing all the GTR

brakes & running smaller non turbo style discs & calipers. Also the suspension has to be totally changed to suit the softer tyres.

another problem is that in Australia(under ANDRA rules) a 4WD is

not allowed to run non radial tyres all round - so unless it's an outlaw meeting at a non-sanctioned event - it wont comply.

The HKS car was exempt at Drag Combat last year as an exhibition car - but they nearly did not let it run as it did not comply with heaps of ANDRA regulations. The shock load through the drivetrain from a 4WD slicks launch can also cause severe breakages. It also means 4 slicks,4 rims, brake changes etc - add that up.Rather than do a bit at a time & slowly get the car into the 9s, I decided to go all out & stretch as far as I could. With the std engine my best was 11.10. Now with new engine my best is 9.66. That's a huge leap in drag racing. With fine tuning & 60' practice we may shave a tenth or two, but the next step into the low 9s could cost anywhere from $20-30,000.00

It's also about the look of the car. As it is it looks like a fairly normal GTR at first glance(I was driving down GJ rd recently & a copper coming the other way didn't even turn to look at it!)

With 15" rims, lexan windows all round,no headlights, & covered with stickers I think it spoils the look of a GTR.People can relate to it if if still looks like a street car.Hope the weather is good for Sat night - looking forward to 9500rpm & playing with my Holinger.

    • Kaizo Industries put a VIN plate over where the Nissan plate would go. It was part of how they broke the law and attracted feds going after them.
    • Reasonably hard, although I haven't run it with the new Endless setup yet. The old brakes were F50's on 335mm rotors and the car did a 1:40.6 at Phillip Island which is a reasonable time, I'm seeing high 600s on the temperature paint. A guy I know ran the Endless fluid at WTAC without issues and he was doing 1:33's I think (Evo) with a 355/332 setup. I don't get out to the track as much as I'd like but we put the car on the hoist and spanner check every bolt and re-paint mark everything, bleed the brakes, change the fuel, check the coolant system and re-bleed blah blah blah before every event. Motorsport is expensive, RB's are expensive so a couple of hours before an event is time well spent. It's also a net time saving because if you can keep your RB from self destructing it saves you time in the long term!
    • Welcome Alice......hope you have a bit more luck from here on! What was done in the build?
    • Hello! I'm new here, I have an R33 GTST that is currently being finished up! Last year was pretty rough, blew two stock turbos so I decided to build the car. Has been down since November, but I get it back next weekend!
    • Hello, I believe my car was imported to America in the 2000s by Kaizo Industries. Would anyone be able to help me find more info on them? I've only found all the basic stuff like that paul walker bnr34, them being shutdown by feds, just stuff like that. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
