Got my car back this afternoon from the mechanic. He didnt change the afm, basically gave it a check over, put it on the dyno, drove it round on the road a bit and said he couldnt fault it. Got it back on the highway and within 5 mins i had created a traffic jam! The problem is very easy to instigate, if i drive it gently and not on boost, all seems ok, if i give it some, say 1/2 bar or more, after i stop accelerating it basically looses all power, splutters, shudders i get very little response form the accelerator (if any) and if i fully remove my foot from the gas it will stall but i can keep it alive by pumping the accelerator, eventally it springs back into life as if nothing happeded. If i accelerate hard again same thing happens. Any ideas??

Cheers

This is freaky.... Same problem, same name as me (Andrew) same car! Mine spent 2 weeks at the mechanics (Although no progress was made)

and it refused to stuff up on them, so they couldnt diagnose the problem. It did it once, and from there they suspected AFMs. I won't go into my personal opinions of this place but basically they had a suspicion and just never ended up acting on it. I needed my car back after 2.5 weeks...so nothing was done. Car still does it. Any updates Twitchy? I'm really over this problem now! :)

ok guys, do a ecu diagnostic check, thatll tell you whats causing the problem.

mine said the afms were faulty so when i jiggled the afm plugs it work for a bit. so i fixed the afm plug wiring and it still didnt help.

so yesterday i open one of the afms and found the solder joints were all cracked.

they didnt looked cracked but when i removed the plug all the joints let loose!! 10 secs of soldering fixed the problem!

Thanks for the help steve (im from fordlaser.com forums too, wrxtasy was my nick)

I forgot to add, that when the problem does strike the GTR, I can't rev past 2500 rpm... bounces off it like a rev limiter. Does this still sound like AFMs?

I'm searching through these forums compiling a list of similar problems that people have had, and hopefully the solutions they came to. I'll then show that to my mechanic so he has some idea of the situation.

BTW steve... relatively new to the GTR, how do I do an ECU diagnostic? Cheers.

Andrew

Also forgot to mention... we hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and I took it home for the weekend... no fuel pressure drop at all when the stuttering occured. I sure as hell hope its the AFMs!

Problem solved, after 3 bloody months of wondering.... Turned out to be the plug on the lower AFM wasnt even in properly. (Theyre vacuum sealed or something, meaning I couldnt feel it was loose until we took the upper afm off) Cleaned the terminals etc etc, and she's right as rain.
