hey fellas,

just recently drove my 33 from adelaide to the gold coast had my 100,000k service before i left, just so happens that the mechanic in his infinite wisdom thought it would be a good idea to leave the bleed valve from the coolant and radiator water loose, the screw eventually came loose causing all the water and coolant to drain out and the car seized.

The screw is now in and tight and once the water and coolant was filled there was no trouble with the rest of the trip however when the car starts now it seems to have trouble starting also when slowing down the car will quite often have trouble mainting a constant rev and oftens stalls, it is booked in for an engine diagnosis, just wanted some of your views what it could be.

the car drives fine and still holds boost perfectly...

I dont think its a head gasket as there was no trouble with over heating.

any ideas what i could be in for????

cheers fellas....

yep definatley get a compression leak down test done, cooking an engine can do all sorts of damage or you may be lucky and have sustained none. You are lucky in the fact that your engine did not sieze because if it had that'd most probably have been your pistons fusing themselves to your bores.

pull your plugs and check for damage from over temp, do an ecu reset if you have the stock unit still in place, your timing may have been slightly nudged during cam belt replacement ect.. Hope you took some pics of the bad workmanship to save any arguments if it does come to a rebuild or repairs.

If the coolant leaked out quickly enough then you probably wouldnt have seen the temp guage go up much, once the coolant is gone the guage cant't get a reading from air so it just shows cold, even though the engine would be getting really hot with no coolant flowing

i found a torch and a screwdriver under my old carolas engine bay after getting it looked at!!!! Good torch too -- still use it constantly.

Apart from them leaving things off the car you should be happy that they left you a gift behind? Good wrench = 50 bucks these days.
