Hi pple,

My car just today got out of the garage. I have the bolts from the manifold broken and stuck in the cylinder head.

Anyhu, while that was getting fixed, i had the timing belt replaced and also two other belts were replaced due to the fact that they were on the way out apparently.

When i got the car it drove fine for about 20kms.

All of a sudden when i start it up theres this loud squeeking noise sounding like it might b coming from a belt. The noise started off happening when i just started, then it started happening when i was turning. Now its happening all the time and is getting louder.

I noticed a few other things that happened too that might be related. When i reach about 5-6000 rpm the battery light on the dash comes on. Also just as i was about to park it in my garage, the HICAS light started coming on and i lost my power steering.

My guess is that the power steering belt needs lubricating or hasnt been fitted properly although this does not explain the battery light at 5000rpm.

If anyone can diagnose this problem it will be much appreciated. I am really worried about it

Thanks

Taso

Well your belts are probably too loose or too tight.

Feel if they have much slack in them. (Not while engine is running)

Just take it back where is was serviced mate. They'll know what the problem is straight away.

Things like A/C and power steering pumps and alternators put load on the belts and if they're not tight then they will slip and squeek.

If they are too tight then these things (a/c p/s alt) can sort of seize up and squeek.

I had to tighten the Alternator belt quite a lot before it stopped squeeling. Take it back to the palce - get them to fix it.

Battery light could be related to a slipping alternator belt. I.e alternator isnt charging the battery. Get them to check it though

Yes that is what happened. Took it back, they said the noise was from the alternator belt being to loose, and the HICAS light was turning on coz the battery was getting drained, (due to the alternator not spinning).

They fixed it and now it runs all smoothe, thanx for ur help guys

save me starting a new topic

just got 100k service all belts changes got Gates Racing timing belt , and the rest are from nissan (ac,fan, alternator)

that was about a week ago, and it still squeeks very very loud on start up for about 20seconds, then it stops (also if i rev within that 20seconds it gets louder with the rev's)

i was told it would wear in, wouldnt take long a few days. so just before i went and gave all the pulleys and belts a nice shower in WD-40  worked a treat ........ for 30seconds or so.

then next thing the squeeks come back! and for only 20seconds , then go away. WTF! must they squeek for 20seconds all the time no matter what ?

even after a long drive, if i have to park and then start it up, it will squeek straight away, but only till the engine runs smooths 3seconds.

so i came inside to find out, tension could be an issue ? they are pretty tight got some give in them like a unopened bottle of COKE for example if you squeeze it.

this is to the point where it is now parked up cause dont like taking it out cause of that noise.

any advice ? my mechs just say its the gates belt, cause its blue .......

wd40 shouldnt be sprayed on the belts from what I've read it will MAKE them squeal etc not stop. I have had new belts squealing issues as well ever since I had them changed ..bit of tightening of the alternator belt fixed the squealing but every once ina while it still does it..

Im sure the timing belt wouldnt be the cause of squeeling so I dont know what your mech is on about. they are prone to humming but not squeeling. they run on teeth too not on pulleys like the other belts. Squeeling cause its blue....thats a first for me. I'd be suspecting the other belts just like the orininal poster. One of them just needs to be adjusted. Get him to check the belts again. I got all my belts changed and it squeeled on occasions too. The mech re-adjusted one of the belts and it has never come back. All I know is if there was a loud squeeling sound coming from the timing belt area I'd be very worried unlike your mech

yeah he said a hum, but the thought about the teeth also.

new water pump too. but yeah alternator , sounds like its coming from there, i'll take it in tomorrow, hope it sorts it out. its just sitting in the garrage begging to be driven

thanks guys. this thread as very much helpful, simple answer and simple thing to fix
