Hi guys,

I've just recently purchased an R32 with a RB25DET (Stock) motor and have a couple of questions.

I'm new to this game and any help provided would be greatly appreciated!!

Q1. How long should I be warming up and cooling down the Turbo?

Q2. The previous owner turned around the stock blowoff valve because he didn't like the noise, he said that due to the turbo running stock psi, it wouldn't cause and damage to the turbo, is this true?

Cheers,

Matt

a r32 with a rb25det as a stock engine :S wtf hahaha

any way if u want to keep ur engine really really safe.. let the car sit there idling for 2 mins and drive around for about 10 mins slowly with no high reving.. and it wouldnt matter if he turned the bov exit down at all cause its still venting..

u sound like me when u stressin about ur car :P

good luck with it champ

The R32 comes with a RB20DET, R33 RB25DET :P

I picked up my R32 GTS-4 a moth ago, and im learning heaps, its great :w00t: I got distracted last night (supposed to be cleaning up ) and modified the interior light to use a ccfl tube, why? im not sure, I think I might be addicted

1.) when you first start the car, just let it idle for a minute at max.

then when you drive, don't rev it much, just dawdle along for the first 10 minutes.

even if the temp guage is at halfway, the oil in the engine and gearbox and diffs are still cold.

10 minutes of sedate driving is enough cause you change gears and stop and move and stuff.

2.) letting your turbo cool down is not an issue that you should be too worried about.

unless you are redlining down your street and come skidding to a hault at your house, there is no real need to let the car sit idling for more than 20-30 seconds.

if you've been giving it a good fanging, then just take it easy in the last 2 minutes of your drive home or work or where ever it is you are going to.

when you stop, by the time you take seatbelt off, collect your shit out of the car, and get out, it's been about 20-30 seconds, then turn the car off.

the bov turned the other way.

that doesn't make sense.

just put it the way it's supposed to be.

It actaully makes the car run better that way.

don't worry about damage to turbo blah blah blah.. with it connected and working properly, the car idles and runs better.

Thanks heaps guys, that's good advice!

My car has had an engine swap, that's why it's got a RB25, when I said stock, I mean't the motor is stock, that's all.

Just had to clear that up, so you didn't think I'm a complete idiot, haha.

Is the blow off valve easy to turn around, I had a look under the bonnet and didn't even know what to look for...

Anyone got any tips for me?..

    • But it's much better to use a freedom unit that has four different possible meanings...
    • I would try messing with friction modifier to see if it smooths it out.  Just keep adding more until it stops chattering or grabbing quite so much. If you haven't changed the gear oil in a long time you may as well start there too in case that has anything to do with it. You might want to also verify the initial torque is set to the lowest setting too. Requires popping out one of the CV axles first but that's not too bad. Once you're sure the preload is set to the lowest you can try adding an ounce at a time of friction modifier until it feels right to you.
    • It is possibly 55 degrees for the Nismo version. I had a look through the manual and the stocker has a breakaway torque of 2.5 to 3.5kgm. Supposedly the Nismo LSD goes down to 5kgm when worn in but it is pretty grabby even with very little throttle. Worse when cold. So I guess you have three things. 1. Shims. 2 Friction plates 3. Cams Would think shims would be the easiest but Ive no clue how many tenths of a mm shim thickness change equals how many kgm torque. Also not sure if the Nismo friction plates are similar/different to stock or if they are the most of the source of the diff being angry. Think I can write off the Nismo rebuild kit for the standard diff as not being what I want.
    • Yeah, it was a bit of confusion with me, I rang and asked if they had a boot for a soft top, and then the paint shop when they rang and were asked if it had a hard top on it, which it does, just not a PRHT....LOL Meh, whilst frustrating for all concerned it isn't a war stopper and should be a thing of the past in a week or two In other N/A related news, car is booked in at the end of the month for the cams, springs, retainers, harmonic balancer and retune  I might even pull the lazy arse card and get them to do a full service on it whilst it is there
