also snowy just on regs. wat tyres are allowed for the track days... am i allowed to use my cheater tyres or do i have 2 use semi's instead?

They can do the full FIA approved cages but if you are after a simple 4 point rollover hoop with tags to the B pillars they quote to do that for only $1050 fitted.

Cool. will have to be quick though as i understand CAMS are about to introduce new guidelines for roll cages (minimums) and some of the changes will mean a small increase in cost.

Any idea of price for a Chrome moly 4 point cage with harness brace? I cant really call them at the moment.

...and i dont think all this talk should scare you off, hopefully make you respect the speeds you do, but shouldnt scare you...i have done over 5 years of days now with only that one stack in the wet....which was as 1/3 brain fade, 1/3 bad luck, and 1/3 having no idea how to slow/stop a car in that situation :)

Since this regs change will affect a lot of us in 2006 I have spoken with Toby @ Meridian and we have setup a group buy on harnesses.

Just cross them over on the way to the back fastenting points...and people then run the strap throught the middle of the headrests..but it is very dependent on the std seat...around the head restraint will suffice provided the seat shoulder isnt too cured...actually check with Meridian :P

Note to self: Never get in GTTR34s car as a passenger. It seems passenger have a tendency to piss their pants :(

Cool seat too...you dont find the Bride too tight everywhere? Though the angle of the harness is pretty accute. I dont know if mine are much better, thats part of the reason why im looking to change where my harness is secured to.

In an accident, the belts will want to straighten as you move forward in the seat. This puts a bit compressive force on the back of the seat. If your tall enough that the straps sit on your shoulders rather then the harness hole in the seat, that means your poor back gets the compressive forces.

Worst case scenario if you are using a dodgy Non FIA approved seat etc then the compressive forces have been know to damage fibreglass seat backs, causing them to fail....Just a word of warning if you are looking ta getting a cheap and nasty 2nd hand seat. Im even worried about my seat in a big acco as its now about 5 years old and FIA compliance has expired?!?!?!?!

haha actually that's what motul RBF600 brake fluid does to a seat :D

The shoulder strap angle is not less than 45 degrees downward from the harness holes, and I'm not tall but I'm taller than snowy :(

I wouldn't even bother with a cheap fibreglass bucket seat, I've seen them floating around for sale and even sat in one and they flex like all fcuk! I'd prefer a solid steel frame stock factory recliner than one of those things.

The Bride Gardis III seat feels solid, but it's very lightweight, as it should for a seat that costs so much :lol:

Once your seat expires, sell it off and buy a new one, get a fresh 5 years of FIA approval goodness :(

LOL...my seat has expired, but it still means i can use it at Sprints etc provided there is no obvious damage to the seat...which there isnt. And at over $3,500 i wont be buying another one :( Next seat will be a Velo or Racetech.

Yeh, the 45deg thing is a good guideline, but if your parcel shelf is well enough desgined, or can be gusseted to accept the harness, it is much more ideal...so thats what im hoping to do.

You are meant to look forward when driving onthe road, not behind you :D

Some would say its a bad habit, some say good, but i rely on my mirrors when driving, so never need to look over my shoulder..but the few times you need to it does suck..ie, last year at Calder at night when i had to reverse of the dummy grid, i couldnt see a thing :P

Denham - i dont usually wear the harness when im cruisin around, only sometimes when im doing a late night high speed touge run :lol:

but yeh the harness really does lock u in place.. i couldnt even twist my torso to shake Rod's hand thru the window at the sau meet the other night haha

I found two issues when fitting the quick release harness from Meridian into my GTR.

1. The eyelet bolts are a different thread size to the seat mount bolts at the back of my front seat. The back left bolt is needed for the lower left strap.

2. I was told by a scruitineer that installing the shoulder straps into the seatbelt clasp mounting position on the rear seat is illegal. It puts the belt on a fairly steep angle, close to 45 degrees.

They say that in a front on accident, forces will move your body forward and cause the driver seat to crush down and inturn, severly compress your spine.

Therefore, they only allowed harnesses in cars where the rear straps were mounted onto the parcel shelf or onto the roll cage at an angle to the shoulders of no more than around 15 degrees.

I know plenty of track day organisers don't pull you up on this but it is worth noting. I will be rigging up a mounting plate in the parcel shelf for the rear eyelet bolts.

After much deliberation....whether or not I wanted to lose the rear seats (still have enough kids at home that rear seats are useful), relative safety of harness v's 3-point std belt with/without roll cage, nasty photo of WRX rollover with uninjured driver etc etc etc. I decided to go ahead with the 4-point harness. Initially I mounted the shoulder straps to the rear passenger seatbelt mounts but likewise, found the angle was too acute. A trip to Meridian yesterday resulted in a very neat installation of a harness bar under the rear parcel shelf, with just the eye bolts poking through. If anyone is interested, Meridian took some digital photo's of the install and I can post them here when they e-mail them to me. Tried out the harness at Calder today and it felt much much better cornering with it on (hope I never have to find out how much safer it is!).

For manufacture and installation of the harness bar (which took several hours) it was just over $600. It's an extremely robust installation and all you can see of it once the parcel shelf is back in is the eye-bolts. Meridian haven't e-mailed me the photo's yet - I'll post them as soon as I get them.
