All,

I'm in the process of trying to source larger diam disks to put on my R32 GTR.

I want to keep the standard calipers, so i'm looking at the 324 R34 GTR ones.

I need brackets or " dogbones" for these and wondered if anyone knew where to get em ( have tried roguepi but he seems pretty hard to get the hold of )

Anyone else who has gone other directions, pls feel free to suggest.....

There are a few other brands of disks ( bmw, audi ) that i could use, but then i'd have to get dogbones made, and thats more $$.

Going to bigger discs is OK as long as you need to do so for cooling purposes etc as it's not going to stop you faster or feel better. Going to a disc large enough to make the hassle worthwhile will probably present pad overlap issues.

If you want better feel etc look at the calipers and pads.

Standard brakes in good shape with good pads can lock up R compound tyres - do you need more?

Brembos are a good easy conversion. Try searching for posts by Roy on this, it's been covered a lot before and he's done a fair bit of research etc.

I want to go bigger for heat dissapation as i have cracked my cross drilled disks. I'm running Ferodo DS2500 pads, which pull the thing up very well on the track, but as with most GTR's they brakes get very hot.

The pads cope very well with the heat, but the disks dont. I guess i could go better quality disks as the ones i cracked are whatever was on the car when i got it.

I'm going to put ducts to them too, but thought i would consider a bigger disk if i could while i was at it.

33/34 gtr ones work really well. the fronts still get red hot but. the rears work suprisingly well.

im running 34/33 rears and f40 343mm floating brakes on the front.

rears only dull red fronts bright orange!!!

i had 33 gtr ones on the front but they dont cop the heat and take ages too cool.

stock 32gtr rears are way too small and get way to hot and crack inhalf!!!

so in reality it depends how hard ur gonna push ur car. bigger is better.

a355mm front with big reds will be the best i recon. can fit 17s over them too.

For the rears: R32 GTR, R33 GTST & R34 GTT discs are all the same diameter, and thickness.

The only difference is the R33 GTR rears which are only 3mm bigger diam, and 4mm thicker. I guess its the added 4mm thickness that makes a big difference.

For the rears whitesky I have a feeling you could get by with just swapping the discs for the thicker ones?

Roy iam runiing 17 inch wheels.

I dont want to spend brembo conversion money, just looking for a bigger disk that i can dogbone to fit.

Fully floating or brembo would be great but i dont want to spend 1500 upwards.

I guess i was hoping to get some disks and make them fit for about 600 bucks.

Cooling ducts from the front lip are the plan, to help ease the pain.

Any more suggestions welcomed......

What do you think of the F40 caliper? Looking at the prices they go for 2nd hand, dido the Porsche calipers i would be inclined to go the AP 4 pots with a 330x32mm rotor.

That said that still an expensive upgrade...ducting is worth a go...when i get my thing back to Sandown im going to try and run a channel of the data logger to the front right rotor and see what temps it sees, and what/if any effect a couple of duct variations has.

Short of spending big money, id have a go at some ducting, and some DBA 5000 rotors. Seems to be a good budget upgrade. Sadly with brakes there is no real cheap fix, especially with GTRs because of their weight and power :D

I also know of a friend that runs out of brakes when he drove his WRX at Eastern Creek (normally not very hard on brakes). But when his cousin drove the car he had no problem with the brakes...and went quicker, so learning how to brake properly is probably the cheapest upgrade...something i dont know how to do as i am always flat spotting semi slicks :P

The best two pieces of advise on here;

I would add, stay away from drilled disks, slotted are the go.

Then spend the saved money on handling upgrades, some circuit specific driver training and the lap times will be faster.

If you still want larger rotors, then UAS do an upgrade for around $800 complete (DBA 4000 series rotors, bolts and adaptors);

Front 355 * 32MM 6 POT

Rear 343 * 28MM 2 POT

Don't muck around, get the best you can afford.

May i ask how much the 6 pot front upgrade was???

And Ronin, its tough enough winning an ebay auction against just the poms, without having ot outbid Aussies as well:rolleyes:

And SK, i would have tended to agree with the std brake statement...but one thing i have noticed is that places like Calder and Sandown are much harder on brakes then some other tracks. And turn 1 at Sandown, its nice to know you have plenty of pedal considering how many cars roll there :)

And these days there are plenty of 1650kg GTRs with std rotors, calipers etc pushing out 250-280rwkws...the R32s do seem to struggle more then R33s etc.

At sprints they may only have to hang in there for 3 laps so worst case you just need to drive with brake conservation in the back of your mind...until i can afford those 8 pot Brembos on 360mm rotors that is :P
