Hello everyone, let me start by saying this is my first post and i bought myself my first Skyline last night, i havn't owned it for 24horus yet and im in love LOL I'm 17 and still at school, and have allways loved these cars, now i'm finally paying off, and pritty much ownign my first skyline, a R33 Gts25t :P

My first question is to everyone out there is, can i get an online (without purchasing of ebay etc) a R33 GTS-25T (1993) Users Manual???

The other, question wich might spark a debate, is what's the best engine oil to use in it??? I've read invoices from the previous owner where performace mechanical workshops use Mobile 1 full synthetic. However my parents friend, who i really trust, (he rallys, and has been around rb's and all motors his wole life) sujest that i should use the Mobile S 10w40 instead??? Now my dad puts that stuff in my mums commodore HAHAHAH, and i read the back and it said it's sutiable for turbo charged cars. I'm jsut curious??? What do most ppl on this forum feel.

Thanks for your time if you read it all LOL

I apricate it.

Michael

For a Start Mobil 5 in a commondore its going to glase the bore and the engine will stop working

anything 10w50 should be fine but dont go overbord with some oils as they are made for rally and Track, So they are made with that in mind. If you are only going to have fun on the weekend look at something street wise.

Thats my 5c about oil.

congrats on the 33 they are a nice car and some really nice body kits out there to make them nicer.

Congrats on the skyline, I bought my first one a month ago, there is a point where you have got to stop dreaming and just do it :P but listen to Nathan G1, my advice, go and have a play in a paddock or on a beach somewhere - its great fun, and you will learn a lot about car control, I do it frequently - the first time I got a car out of shape I was 18, it was my parents volvo in the wet and I ended up parking it in a ditch. How embarrasing. You could do yourself a lot of damage with the speeds a skyline can reach :D Sorry about the lecture, Im 25, my friends are getting married for smeg sake, im getting OLD this SUX - Shut up dave!

Thanks guys, well what can i say, first impressions count, and i made a post on the forum and i had 7 replies within a few hours, wow. I want to say thankyou to eveyone and don't consider it a lecture, i feel kinda happy that the people on this board are careing enough to pass on words of wisdom to somone they just met. Unforchantly mid last year i wrote of my dads work VZ commodore in the wet on the way to work........................um......... what can i say, i actully live on a property 10acres so ive allways been aroudn paddock bashes moto's etc, and yeah even with a few years up on my friends, and i still crashed.

I'm going to be so carefull, i have my HSC this year and the last thing i need is more added stress.

As for the nice body kit comment its got a GTR 400R kit, wich i think looks kinda cool :( i'll upload pics soon when i get a chance.

Does anyone know of the best insurance company to deal with these cars are??? I'm putting it in my mums name tomorrow when i can get to the RTA, and with her drivign record and stating her 17 year old sons going to drive "HER" car LOL they quoted 1.8k a year for full comprehensive, insured at $10,000. Hmmm it's alot of money........ im scared, of some dickhead hitting me and not having insurance........ stolen........or i crash it :)

Sorry for the 101 questions, but im looking for the rubber boot that goes over the top part of the manual gear leaver just under the underlay stuff. Does anyone know what im talking about, it's missing it so you can hear the air coming through when you exceed 80km/h.

Thansk again for eveyones replys.

i cant insure mine LOL coz i cant drive it on the street......but most imports can only get insured through just cars insurance. and 33's are generally worth up near 15 so 10 is under-insuring it. but yeh, noone likes seeing another kid dead from a high powered car he couldnt handle....i say kid and im only 21. so take it easy and dont drive it hard in the rain

Yeah. You are allways told how slippery it is in teh rain and untill you feel it for your self you never really understand the extent of it. I unforchantly found out the hard way, since my crash nearly 7months ago i drive so differently in the rain.

What coolent woudlk you guys sujest i use???

And are Ryco, oil filters fine for this car????

I'm planing on giving it a oil change to morrow, and the guy who i bough it of, obviously hasn't put coolent in it for ages its like water with a slight sligh slgih green, suprisingly it doesn't run hot, but im not going to risk it.

Dose any one know, the oil capacity the R33 RB25DET takes??? Thanks

I can't find a dam owners hand book anywhere on the net, you woudl think theres a pdf. file some where.

coolant - don't use it, fill the radiator up with distilled water and add a bottle of redline water wetter, have a read on their website about how it works, better then any coolant shit, unless of course you are going to be parking in areas where the temp drops below zero, in which case you might need something with antifreeze in it

for oil filters you can't go past the original nissan parts. I pay only $8.60 for a RB20 filter from my local nissan dealer. If you want to spend more then K&N oil filters are about as good as they get but cost about $30 from autobarn.

have fun with your 33!

Yep i'll get onto that this afternoon? I have to put the images on a hosting site right then upload the url???? (that how it's done in other forums is it done that way here)

As for the oil filter, i bought a RYCO one it's Z145A, it says sutiable for 300zx twin turbo's, skyling 3.0l from i think it said 87-91, nothing abotu RB or later skylines. Is this becuase its a import, and they don't have it on the computer data base, or on the back of the packet. The guy at REPCO assured me it was right. But on the central coast there isn't as many R33's so i dought he's had too much experence.

What are your thoughts. Oh on insurance, my mum can get it insured for full comp in her name and for $1,800 and if i crash i jsut pay a heavy $2.7k ecsess, the insurence is a killer, im jsut lucky my mums prepared to put it in her name, with a perfect driving record LOL

    • Yuck. But it's kinda the same principle, moving timing around to make car run bad but sound good.... I went for a more spirited tuning drive to iron out a few things. Car no longer stalls, and it loved to dip RPM low when you clutch in. After tuning this (and the 4-5 tables that HPTuners/LS1 OEM ECU wants for idle air correction) it's now behaving somewhat normal. All expected because there's a new TB, new Intake manifold and that new TB which is 102mm vs 78... has an entirely different IAC passage which is smaller because ????? Unfortunately at this point I went to make further fine tuning changes to avoid it flaring up, you know... _tuning_ the HPTuners dongle died. Well to be more accurate - The USB cable died in a fashion that anyone who has ever charged a phone will recognize. After the app demanding I resync it 50 or so times (which all 'succeeded' but all failed) the device does not want to sync and I've logged a ticket with support to see if it's fixable. US Support said it was a 'storage issue' but after removing the SD card inside it and formatting it/fixing it the issue does persist. Unfortunately usually the fix is "Turn in your old dongle and pay $700 for the upgraded one" it's cheaper because I get some free licence credits I unfortunately don't need. However I'm 10 minutes down the road from HP Tuners AUS/VCM so at least I won't need to post it, and logged a new ticket for support over here. Definitely drives different. My SOTP dyno believes it's probably making 310-320kw instead of the 280 before.  It scrambles for traction a little now whereas it previously different. It drives like a bigger cam car up top even though the cam is smaller, likely due to the cam not being advanced 6 degrees. The timing is deliberately low and the fuel is very rich so who knows if this will improve on the dyno. It may, imperceptably. Also funny is removing the pineapples definitely makes the car squat more and axle tramp less. So this behavior of having more top end, squatting more, and scrabbling for traction more makes me think = more power. But I could have just been sitting on the threshold of that kind of behavior before. Time will tell if my butt dyno is calibrated right. I need the exhaust leaks fixed before dyno tune for obvious AFR related reasons - I repositioned the pipes but I'm not confident it's fully sealed even if it is better. At least the car does drive around while I cannot tweak/tune it for now. And I have aircon again. medium success!
    • Don't use that manifold. Please don't use that manifold. Sunk cost fallacy is not worth the later pain. None of these will be relevant to the change that will come from the different turbo and manifold. As in, the effect of the exhaust will be nil, regardless of what else is changed. And all the cam and fuel system stuff is not changing either way, so has no effect. The turbo and manifold (and to a small extent the wastegate)....big change.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for your input   my man (lead mechanic by trade) and I have done a heap of work as you can imagine just to make the hot side work with the dump pipe, stupid massive intake on turbo, trying to get the waste gate on was not fun.  I’m kinda getting to the point where I don’t know if I try and make this work and not throw all this cash and time away or do I scrap the lot and start again? the Apexi I’ve got was tuned for a few slight differences:   Tomei pon cams (mine are stock neo) Turbo smart 38mm external waste gate (mines 45mm replumbed) with stainless screamer pipe  3inch turbo back exhaust with high flow cat Sard 800cc top feed injectors Sard adjustable fuel pressure reg
    • Out here E90s are the cheapest way into a sporty-ish car because everyone knows just how expensive the repairs can get. 8-10k USD for an automatic 335i.
