I've managed to spin a rod baring in my R32 GTR and have been quoted what I think is way to much for repair $4000k.

This is the figure for baring replacement, with (if needed) new rod and cam shaft machining costing an additional $1500. Ooouuuch.

Can anyone tell me if this requires engine removal to fix??

Can anyone tell me of a solid reputable Jap engine shop that would quote a more realistic price??? :)

rod baring????

FYI: Your engine will require removal and re-fitting . Plan to spend an extra $1000 - $1500 for a mechanic to remove and re-install. Less if you D.I.Y

Mate, time to face reality.

You own a Skyline GTR. You've blown the engine. $4000 seems quite reasonable to me. You have to factor in almost 30 hours worth of labour to fix the problem as the engine will need to be removed, stripped, reconditioned then put back together with new parts to raplace what needs replacing.

You can get bearings from Nissan.

Also I am a little concerned as to why you believe you've spun a rod bearing. Anyone who knows enough about cars and engines to diagnose an engine bearing problem should know what it takes to rebuild the engine and the subsequent cost involved. Have you taken the car to a mechanic yet to have the problem diagnosed properly?

Mate on the second page there are some price for rebuilds. proengines think is in nsw an seems well price and a lot of people have used his services on SAU i belive

As for the costs

R&R $1500

machine crank

bearings

maybe oil pump if that is dead

I dont think you are going to get much cheaper then $4000

Jaz that is a pretty cheap price, what did they include in the quote.

Generally it would be more like 6k once you put forged pistons in as well.

The good news is you don't need to buy Nissan bearings, ACL make race style bearings locally a fair bit cheaper
