Hi Guys,

I have a r32gts-t and I have noticed my lsd is starting to wear out.

The diff has been whinning since I bought the car and only since got a

bit louder.

My car is at the mechanics at the moment and I getting it looked at today.

I will be getting all the bits that are worn out replaced.

Although im not too sure what to do with the lsd.

I have been recomended a mini-spool and when considering rebuilding the diff and getting a mini-spool, its far better off than spending almost double in a japanese lsd.

I would like some opinions regarding the lsd and what people think of mini-spool.

Thanks

Mark

AFAIC mini spools should be left for the track, and I think are illegal in most states. Besides the car will be a pain to drive at low speed/parking.

If you have a clutch pack LSD centre it should be possible to restore it by re-shimming and it's unlikely to be responsible for the whining, which is probably due to damaged bearings or a shot crown wheel and pionion set.

Hi Guy's,

Thanks for the opinions.

Yes Ash it has been a long time! Hows ur beast?

I've just done some research and I don't think a mini spool would be good to go for, I don't like the fact that its locked even under de-acceleration.

Does anyone know where to get a mechanical centre from?

Ash where abouts did you get your diff done & will the lsd last?

Thanks heaps so far guys

take care

Mark

nengun can get nismo/cusco lsd's 1.5/2 way but I dunno how long it would take to get one to your door.

If you decide to go with a jap diff centre I would suggest on a 1.5 way.

I have a cusco 2 way and it is very tight indeed, It can be a real pig at times.

Hi RedDrifter,

Thanks for your advice man!

I think I will be looking at a 1-way or 1.5-way although I would like to know the difference between the two.

As far as I know the 2-way would be more suitable for track/drift cars.

Is there any places in melbourne that would stock a centre?

Thanks

This should explain how they work and the difference between the 3 types of lsd.

Well It did for me anyway. :D

I wouldn't bother rebuilding the stocker, its only going to wear out again 6-12 months later if you drive hard.

Buy a mech LSD for around $1100 and you won't have to worry about changing it again if you look after it properly.

Go see Henry at RMS Motorparts and tell him Sam from Geelong sent you, he'll look after you...

give greenline performance a look.

Great prices, and aparently shipping is pretty quick

good luck.

they have brand name lsd centres for ~ $700+

I am going to grab a couple when funds come in.

Another place you could try are Garage 13,

Thanks guys for all the advice!!!

My diff has worn out today :(

It started rattling and making noises, luckily only a block away from the mechanics!

I got it there safely, thank god.

I will go ahead with rebuilding the stocker, I was told by Ben a race pace that they are mechanical anyway. Obviously nothing compared to the after market options.

Although come to think of it the stocker isn't so bad, to think about it its lasted around 13 years on my car and who knows how bad it was treaded in Japan. I can tell you for sure that when it arrived the oil was putrid and the diff made noises when reversing. Ive maintained it and to be honest it has had a bit of a work out on occaision. To last as long as it has, I think its pritty damn good.

I love the drivablility and it has never been a problem since the lsd has started to wear out. I think it will be great to have a fresh diff. And at the moment unfortunately I don't have the funds to indulge in an aftermarket lsd, then on top of that replace what may be damaged.

Although in the distant future if the lsd starts to wear out, at least I will know that the one I will purchase will be going into a pritty fresh diff that will be well looked after.

Thanks Heaps Guys

Mark :P

I'm going a GTR Mechanical clutch center in my R32 GTST.

They go for around $500-$650.

I'm taking the pumpkin to the diff people and having them shimm it up a little, at the same time they will check it out, if its near nackered I will have the wreckers replace it with another item.

It won't be too tight as to feel like an aftermarket mech. lsd but something streetable. :(
