if u can grab the ecu serial number (23710-XXXXX) then i can probably check when ur ecu is from. most likely if u havent wired up the consult port ull need to do that, but thats only a minor issue.

not yet...got word back from one of the two places i contacted about getting it custom made (this one in the US) and i should get an estimate on how much it would cost from them soonish.

still finalising some of the hardware - ive decided on just serial consult interface capability (was thinking of usb, but decided the usb if at all would be an adaptor onto the serial - have already tested this in its basics and its fine, but will cost an extra $20 and probably diy to put together). want to have the pcb made so that all future functionality i might put onto the device is there to start with - ie room for eeprom to store data, buzzer for alarms, etc

ive found a decent LCD (viewing angle 50 from up, 60 from below, and 40 each side which is by far best ive seen, good refresh time, also is wide temp which is great) which ive got a couple of to test with. just hope they are kept in stock as i bought 3 of the last 8, but it might take quite a while to get more in

desktop and ppc software is on hold while im working on this. havent really started ppc app aside from just testing some stuff will work on it. good thing will be that knowing how to make it look will be harder than actually doing it

be working a bit on trying to get a beta of the desktop version available today

got a first quote back on the enclosure being custom made, going to be around the 30$ in large quantities (ie 50-100), which i guess if i cant get anything better will go with it. around $15 more than what i budgeted for, but still have another place to check out so will see if i can get something better there

still unsure if ill be able to do that, will take a while to write up a construction guide and whatnot, and troubleshooting any problems will be hard. construction itself might not be too difficult so i might just do that myself

essentially it comes down to whether i think ill save more time doing it myself or not whether i can offer it as a kit. wont rule out anything yet though

at this stage i think best case scenario would be end of march for when i get things all ready by (either diy or assembled), but have been busy at work lately so havent had much time to finalise stuff like pcb layout (which then effects the enclosure production).

cool take your time.

Attention to detail will pay off for you- its proof to the rest of us that you're going to have a top product at the end of it :P

here's an update, have made a prototype. which removes a lot of the extras, but am just testing the main screen and will soon be able to test the integrated consult interface, just need to wire up the serial plug.

as you can see the size is still quite compact and am on track to make it of similar dimensions to whats shown there.

shot taken on angle as i had no contrast adjust setup on lcd yet (and straight on was just like all black). whats shown there is standalone and only has the consult plug coming off it.

need to have a draft pcb made for the enclosure to be done (so they can make sure everything fits). i hope to have it done by end of month. then maybe 1.5-2 months till enclosure is done, and at the same time id get final pcb and components ready.

unfortunately due to enclosure costing more and having to get the pcb's done elsewhere to the normal place, current estimate is up around the 175 mark, however this shouldnt change much (and no chance of it going beyond 200).

hardest thing is getting the time to get pcb done with work and uni being flatout. i just want time to stop for a week!

heres the prototype pcb that sits behind the lcd. the lcd "plugs" into the very left "rectangle" box on this thing (and thats the only connection to it, so replacing it will be easy). ill be getting this made soon for testing (about 5-10 of them), so fingers crossed i didnt make any mistakes.

there are 3 buttons - the left one will be (whenever i add the functionality) the "command" button, and the next two will be the add/minus or up/down or whatever buttons. you can then see the switch roughly in middle, here you switch it to left to use the display like normal, or to the right to use it as a consult interface. theres also a lot of future expanability in the board (a lot of places i can wire other stuff in) so hopefully ill only ever need this one layout for anything i do

will be ordering parts soon, and if the first prototype boards i get have no issues, then i can get a full batch done and get the enclosures made (roughly 6 weeks from then is when enclosures might be done).

the novelty of blue wears off quickly once u realise how hard it is to see in daylight and on angles.

but any standard sized (182x33.5mm) 40x2 module can go in. just this one im getting will be wide temp and very good viewing angles compared to most.

    • From my bolts, standard M8 with 1.25mm thread pitch (M8x1.25mm).    Length is 19mm under the head and has a captive 18mm OD flat washer.   20mm length from a bolt shop is what you'll be able to get.   Make sure they're zinc plated.    If you're concerned about strength, grade 8.8 will be more than enough. Original PN is 01121-04971.  Now discontinued according to Amayama but that's because it's one of the parts that's been captured by the Heritage program, which explains the ridiculous price.   New PN is 01121-RHR20: https://nismodirect.com/nismo-heritage-bolt-pin-hinge-hood-bnr32-nissan-skyline-gt-r-01121-rhr20-01121-04971/ About AUD33 converted from Yen in the above link but that's just one example. Interesting that the hinge-to-body bolts are still available non-heritage.....PN 08116-8161G around $2 each (amayama).    Same thread but 16mm long.
    • Well, if that filter was impeding fluid flow, then it could have similar effects to faulty solenoids. The TCU will register a fault when it does something (ie, changes the state of a solenoid) and does not detect the required result. If there are other causes that can make the same lack of result, then they will be indistinguishable to the expected cause for which the TCU has a code.
    • Yellowjackets, red ones, blue ones (other than Splitfire) have all been demonstrated to be unreliable on turbo engines. That unreliability can be anything from outright failure (ie, 4 out of a set of 6 working out of the box) to just not being strong enough for the task, on a boosted engine. Not enough of us care about NA engines to know whether that unreliability is an issue for the undemanding needs of an NA RB20. I should think though that the DIS-008 should fit the 20. There's not really any reason for the head/coil mounting area to be any different on those 2 Neos. I wouldn't be buying Splitfires, or any other old tech coilpack, for a car in this day and age though. I would buy modern pencil coils and do what needs to be done to adapt them to the loom. That's relatively trivial these days, with numerous kits for fitting R35, or Audi, or Yaris/Corolla coils.
    • Keen to see how much work is needed to get an abandoned Skyline going. My R32 has been sitting idle for three years or so but finally got some time to get it going again. (Also lurking SAU and trying to hit 10 posts so I can start my own intro thread with pics)
    • Hi. Which coilpacks can i use in my engine? I looked at the Splitfire but the closest "match" i found was SP-DIS-008 but even that they do not show RB20DE NEO so iam not 100% sure. Or maybe different one which will 100% work? I saw many on ebay but they are some cheap "strange" ones. What about Yellow Jackets? Many thanks 🙂
