GDay,

I just finnished sitting my engine in my car tonight and i thought id post up some pics of my work in progress. I also just wanted to use my new mobile phone to post pics up on the net! The car has been off the road for about two years now, after i spun two bearings in the 26 only a day after putting it in. An oil line popped off the remote oil filter, so always use braid with Earls fittings! Ive just been doing this one slowly because of the extreme expense of it all!

Anyway, its a 97 RB26 with forged pistons, standard prepped rods, ARP everything, balanced everything, recoed head, GT35 turbo with 0.82ar turbine housing (its a street car and i want response), ceramic coated manifold, turbine housing, dump and front pipes, 4in trust exhaust, tial 44mm wastegate and all the other usuals. Oh, ive got an Autronic SM4 wired in too.

Ive still got to complete the fuel system, which consists of walbro into surge tank and 044. I think im going to bend up aluminium solid lines from the surge tank to eliminate any fuel smell in the cabin. Anyone had any experience in this?

Other than that, its just small bits and pieces like wiring in the thermos (EL Falcon items) and boost controller.

Interested to hear from those who have a similar set up. Cheers.

I run an identical fuel setup but with rubber hose. I haven't noticed a fuel smell in the cbain but it is definately there in the boot (i have kept the rear seat in mine to block out the 044 noise).

Thanks. I think ill definately run with solid line from the surge tank until it exits the boot, and use braid up over the rear suspension componentry to the HICAS lines that are now used for fuel. I think itll actually work out cheaper than braid. Solid = $28 for 3m, braid = $44/m.

On a side note, my turbo comp housing is sitting only about 5mm away from the shock tower. Im a bit worried itll hit the body with the flex of the engine. Ive got stiffer nismo engine mounts, but was wondering if anyone has had any troubles with this sort of thing.

Shaun.

looks very very nice mate, clean and polished looks 100 times better than painted bits imho. :O

single turbos are getting more and more popular everyday :O

have u got the stock gtr capacity sump on it? i'd be changing that for sure if u havent already, to be safe ;)

good luck with it

cheers

Brad

Hi Shaun,

Nice job with your engine, congrat's!

Your Turbo comp housing won't cause you a problem, you'll be fine

Cheers,

Adam

Thanks guys. Only gotta finnish the fuel system and wire in the thermos and boost controller now. Ill keep you all posted on my progress.

Oh yeah Brad, ive addressed the oiling issues in the sump as well.

Thanks Adam, i was hoping someone with experience in this sort of thing would tell me not to worry!

I hope the Autronic goes ok; as i understand it, your very happy with your Autronic (SMC?).

Shaun.

BTW, are you using the Autronic boost controller? If so, any problems?

I'm using the HKS EVC IV Boost Controller. You could use the Autronics item but I don't know anything about it. The HKS EVC is a great boost controller.

Which SMC are you going to use?

I am happy with mine but my tuner loves the Power FC even more - so easy to tune and Plug & Play.

Turbotechnics in Cardiff Newcastle specialise in Autronic & there boost controllers. He should be able to sort it out for you.

very nice setup - wish i could afford a computer as nice as that =) I got the same turbo as you though but its not polished

Im using the new Autronic SM4. Apparently you dont run into ignition problems with the SM4. I think ill use the Autronic boost controller, as my tuner is quite familiar with it and says its excellent.

Its hard to go past the PFC though. I really didnt want an AFM though (just my personal choice) and i didnt want to get the d-jetro (?) PFC.

Ive spoken to turbotechnics in cardiff at length and drooled over their drag cars too.

Guilt toy; Ha, How true is that!

You talking about the evo or the RX7 ?? Did you see my burgandy R33 ? it will be finished soon!

Whos tuning the car for you ?

Silverwater Automotive will be tuning the car. I was sold on the Autronic SM4 when i saw my friends 1100Kw twin turbo V8 idle and drive like a road car.

The head has just been reconditioned without any porting etc. I figured that the tyres will fry without head work anyway! Ill see what the result is with standard cams and adjustable cam gears for the moment. Things will change in the future i suppose; such is the nature of the beast.
