It's a power thing. Drive a skyline with a stock exhaust and you'll see why we change them...

more airflow out = more airflow in

more airflow in = more fuel consumption

more fuel consuption = more power

Oh and don't forget .... you can also extrapolate how small the wang is by how big the exhaust tip is!
