this is going to be a temporary car for me, because im going to get another STi. But i still want power but not over the top because im only gona keep it for 1year or 2 the max

yeah, my gtst is my runabout but i'll probably sell it soon and get something that doesn't chew so much fuel. maybe you should get a non-turbo 33 or 34, if it's going to be ur second car???

i have no car atm, i recently sold my VL Turbo aswell. So i rkn a R32 GTS-4 should be ok.. im thinking of a engine conversion.. but thats if i like it and deicde to keep it.. but most likely its jst going to be my taxi.

gts4 weighs more than the sti, weighs the same as an R32 gtr, has less power and torque than both.

usual mods of exhaust air filter, boost and some tuning will give it about the same power as a stock sti has.

don't think that it is in anyway a gtr or a baby gtr just cause it has a "SIMILAR" driveline.

that said, it beats walking.... so get one.

I'm 28 and my insurance is $1500 with Just cars.

My location can be seen in my profile on the left.

if you are looking at an Rb25 install, consider this..

engine = $2500

GTR gearbox = $1000 (yes the stock one will break with a modified rb25 eventually)

clutch, ecu, tuning, conversion cost for someone doing the work for you...

etc..

in the end, you will have a car that makes the same or less power as a GTR with boost and exhaust... which would have been cheaper to buy..

but it's your money

You're keeping it for a year and doing an engine conversion?

The GTS4 will be slower than a standard WRX (non-sti). Don't expect it to go fast at all unless you are prepared to spend a few thou. Nothing against the cars, they're great. But the RB20 is weak enough already. The extra weight just makes it worse.

Saying that though, you will be able to drill it's gearbox a lot harder than a WRX's (non-sti).

im not 100% on the engine conversion. and i got quated $3,350 from just cars for a 1990 HR32GTR . So which car will be faster? A modded R32 GTS-t or modded GTS-4 upto 160rwkws-180rwkws... im gona keep it for a year or two but i might put on a fmic and a exhaust. I like the GTS-t's but im more of a AWD man.. but ive driven my cousins skyline a few times now and RWD is stating to grow on me!

After I got my GTR a mate of mine bought a GTS4 for half the price of my GTR. And he got precisely half the car..

GTS4s are ok, but in my mind the lack of torque that RB20s suffer means they are much more suited to rear wheel drive. I'd much prefer a GTST with an RB20 (or for that matter an RB25) than a GTS4.

I've driven a GTST a GTS4 and I own a GTR.. Don't think that a GTS4 is a baby GTR, because they lack lots more than just 0.6L of engine capacity.

Trust me its better to go with the RWD. GTSt

And P.S BNR32 is a GTR and I'm pretty sure RNR32 is GTS4 and RCR is GTSt .. Eitherway the HR is definately not GTR.

Just don't be fooled into thinking that an AWD Skyline will handle anything like an AWD STi. The characteristics are completely different. The AWD skylines are essentially are rear wheel drive car, with some power sent to the fronts when the rears are slipping. It does not offer the idiot proof security of permanent all wheel drive. Definitely have an extensive test drive before you buy.

If you are expecting STi handling, you will be disappointed, not because the Skyline's handling is worse, but because the Skyline's handling is different.

thanks for the replies guys.

1- Arent 1993+ R32 GTR's BNR and the lower ones HR?

2- I dont expect the GTS-4 to be as fast/handle like a STi. (STi is out of its league)

3- Ive made up my mind, i had fun with a STi but in a few months il be getting a R33 GTR (MOST Likely if not def R32GTR)

thanks for all the replies

    • Hi. A little bit of an update. It maybe(hope not) looks like i would need a new tranny(it would be "maybe" a cheaper or better option anyway) So i need some info. I know i need a different propshaft(i can make custom one) LSD is not a problem cuz the engine will be still(for now) N/A RB20. So if i buy RB25DET NEO tranny...is there something else i need? I read something about push/pull type but i do not know if i need to "change" something or i can just plug n play onto my engine a go? Thanks for the advice
    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
