MANWHOR3
Hey all you canberra people. I might be coming down to canberra in a few weeks and I was wondering if it is still legal to buy fireworks in the ACT? I've heard mixed reports. Some say the rule has changed. Others say it's still legal. So what's the deal? Also, does anyone know where some good shops are? GTS_DUY
last year, you needed to be 18 with proof of ACT residency. ideally, well illegally, you could get a friend or family member to buy them for you.... best place for em is mitchell, or out at fyshwick, i remember last year it was hard to find the "good shit", was pretty small and low-fun banter. MANWHOR3
I am easily over 18. Proof of ACT residency is the problem. I'm just wondering whether you can still buy em, coz someone told me that they've changed the law to ban them. MANWHOR3
I have no idea. Last time I was in Canberra, probably 3-4 years ago, I just walked into a store, asked the owner what was good and picked up a few nice bits and pieces. I wasn't asked to show ID or permit or proof of residency or anything. Terminal
It completely changed about 2 years ago. you used to need to be from interstate, as the only way they could sell them without a permit was a loophole they abused in federal law about exchange of goods between states. now they've banned them completely except on a couple of weekends a year when you can buy them with an ACT residency, over 18 and some little 2 day permit you get from government shopfonts(i think). so if you're coming from interstate, i wouldn't hold my breath Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/102932-fireworks/#findComment-1892578 Share on other sites
Amaru
As Terminal said, you can no longer come into the ACT and buy fireworks. 99% of the shops are shut for most of the year anyway. The only weekend it is easy to buy them, is the queens bday long weekend. Any other time of the year, you need a permit.
