HOLY CRAP!!!!

Of all the nights to go to bed early.... Okay, a few points:

1/ I made 265kW on the standard turbo. If I had two too many runs on the dyno then consider that on my second run I made 256kW.

2/ Laurie, mate I have pm'd you about the 'old prick' comment and explained for your benefit who it was directed to. I think almost everyone who had the piss pulled out of their car by this tool knows who I meant anyway. Sorry for the confusion.

3/ I didn't drive 4 hours there and back, spend $25 on tolls, use a full tank of fuel and a whole day of my time to NOT WIN! The social aspect of the day is the best part (with the harmless gee-ups and shit-stirring) but come on.

4/ It's supposed to be a fun day with good people and until I read this thread this morning, that's what I thought I'd had. Brad makes a great point: "...if anyone is after an accurate power figure they are best to go to WSID and go by MPH or put their engine on an engine dyno..."

5/ Thanks again for everyone involved for making it a great day; Adam and Jase from SAU, John, Ben and the guys from UAS, Andrew from Turbosmart, Stuart from Bezerkly Automotive, Ignition DVD Magazine, all the guys'n'gals from SAU who are just in it for the giggles and anyone else I've forgotten.

Adrian

umm.. its called a lil bit of harmless shit stirring! in case you didn't notice, i asked ben to fudge my figures to scare wil!!! its all fun and games!! i don't think adrian would have meant your wife to take it seriously!!

i think you need to lighten up a lil!!!

yeah.. BITCH! .....

lol :P

come on, lighten up ppl! It was a fun day.

I seem to remember bitching like this after the SAU Shaw and shine!

I take my hats of the SAU team, who go out of their way to organise days like this, and pour their own personal time into it for our benefit, only to have people bitch and moan about the day.

If you dont like the way the events are run, become a SAU organiser and run these things your self.

Adam, well done for running these events and a big thanks to UAS for supporting the club.

This thread is closed until I write a complete answer.

Anyone who starts a new thread about this (unless it's just a pics thread) will have their account temporarily suspended.

Elbee I will get a reply to you shortly.

Ok here is my wrap up post.

I bow to all those who have thanked me for organising the day. I was wrecked when I got home but it was a good day all round and worth it.

Sometimes it seems the only way we can possibly keep you all happy is to run only non competitive events. Perhaps the compromise solution is to give no prizes to the R33 GTST category as that is always the problem category.

El Bee – you are a grown man and have seemed at all times prior to this to be a decent and nice person. I can’t believe the fuss you have been making here. You have embarrassed yourself over the many hours you posted here.

I rubbed your car off the board. I did it because firstly, you told me you had the turbo high flowed and rebuilt at GCG last year and secondly, because I know that GCG do not do standard rebuilds of RB25 turbos – they only highflow. A stock turbo is stock when it comes out of the factory, any modification or rebuilding (or in your case the machining out to within a mm or two of it’s life and the stuffing of a GT30 core in it) of a turbo causes that turbo to cease being stock.

I left the board blank while I tried to find Primordial to ask him what he got because I thought he had the previous highest. A little later I came back and a new name was on the board and I think it was Charlie said to me something like ‘the figures are saved in the dyno computer so you can easily get them out’. I misinterpreted this to mean that he had got the figures from the computer and put them on the board but all that had happened was the next highest figure was put there.

If I was you, the question I would have left the dyno day with would not be ‘why didn’t I win the stock turbo category with my non-stock turbo’ but ‘why am I only making 205rwkw with my bigger turbo, PFC, injectors, etc.’ when most other people with similar setups are getting 220-240?

As to the various power figures that everyone got; do you need any more proof that the dyno is a tuning tool rather than an accurate measuring instrument? That said, for those interested I got 255rwkw at Bel Garage on a similar day a month ago and without making any changes I made 256rwkw on Saturday at UAS.

Ben tried very hard in difficult conditions to give everyone a fair go. Imagine if your workday consisted of an 11 hour day, 9 hours of which were spent in a hot, humid, noisy, fume filled and stressful room with quite literally 5 minutes for lunch. It’s possible you might not get every car/job exactly right, especially since you are rushed for time trying to get 48 cars through.

The nos run by 2rismo I don’t believe should count and I told 2rismo this before he even ran. RBFIRE should have won that category – despite the apparent happy reading - but because of the misunderstanding we didn’t know. It’s a bit hard for me to now find 2rismo and take the prize off him. We may find out later that RBFIRE’s car had the stock ECU chipped in Japan and runs some very aggressive timing to make that figure realistic. (Do you feel like posting your graph for us to see RBFIRE?)

Yes Adrian/2rismo can come across as arrogant to the uninitiated and perhaps El Bee, you found him so, but you have been around for a long time and so if you haven’t figured him out yet you can at least come and ask me or any of the other people you have known for a year or two what our opinion is.

If you or anyone else wants us to devise a system that 100% ensures that this sort of thing can’t happen I can tell you it is possible but it will quite likely cost everyone about double. Skylines Australia NSW is a club run by volunteers.

As for a ‘circus surrounding the Bezerkely boys’ – I can assure you that they hold no sway over me or UAS and if you don’t believe me I don’t care. I would have appreciated 2rismo telling me that his mate was a workshop car (as it appears to be) because I would not have allowed it to win. I'm very glad I didn't have to worry about that in the end.

We run these days for the enjoyment of the majority. I do try, but it seems I am doomed to failure when it comes to pleasing everybody. Prizes are there to add to the fun of the day and create a talking point. They are not the be all and end all, they are nothing but a diversion from the true purpose of the day which is to entertain people. It’s a social day out – not a bloodthirsty competition!

I’m glad the majority of you did have fun.

The winners and details will be posted shortly.

Just to clarify a couple of things:

1/ The green Bezerkly car is NOT their workshop car. It is a customers car and Stuart from Bezerkly came along to share in an otherwise fun day. Their 'workshop' car is a 9 second Galant :) And just to correct you, Adam - It didn't win anything so no need for you to ignore its respectable power output.

2/ Adam, you made the rules fairly simple and I thought that was with good reason. Changing them on the day is as bad as letting someone run in a particular class when you know them to be inneligible. Let me ask you this, again - If I had every modification done to my car known to man EXCEPT for the turbo and made 230kW on C16 would I win? Your answer on the day was yes. Is it still? No-one, not even the people you suggest should have won this category agree with you on this point.

Just to show what good sports they are, (and not a circus as has been suggested), Stuart from Bezerkly has offered $150 worth of Turbosmart vouchers to RBFIRE as a small concellation. PM me for details mate and we'll sort it out.

Personally, I'm pretty upset by the implication that my mechanic was there for any other reason than to share in a great day with the club. Hopefully this shows everyone what they're made of regardless of what garbage is floating around.

Regards,

Adrian

I am apologise to every one who got upset about the whole dyno figure issue.

Initialy i was expected too much out of a "NUMBERS" on the graph.

little did i know, its only good for comparision, thus too many variables can affect the numbers.

i didnt know it would turn out such an ackward situation! :O

ABo Abo:

I will try to take Pic of the graph and post it up by tonite (to help me figure out the mystery figure i have, not to claim prize or anything, because i want to know wat my engine is capable of :) )

I had a fun day,

thanks for organising such a mad event.

2Rismo:

I left at 1pm, so its doesnt count. Prizes only for whom stayed the whole day to claim it.

Cheers,

Guest

    • I found the same with Subaru’s.  I own and love the SG9 Forester, after that model 2008+, Subaru threw the ugly stick at all their line up and somehow managed to make them look worse with every succeeding year.  lol
    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
