i agree get some 16's on the rear then use slicks they should only be around the $200 - $300 mark each cheaper than most street tires

Leave the 17's on the front and get some 255/50/16" Mickey Thompson ET Drag Radials. Buy some cheap, 16" rims (like factory 16x7.5" 300ZX rims) and go racing.
