The R33 S1 and S2 gearbox, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel and clutch slave cylinders are all interchangeable. The speedo drive unit from an R32 GTR is a direct bolt in, no messing around with cogs, just slip in and bolt on the retainer. The needed slip yoke is the same as a VL Turbo and 300ZX, so that at least widens what you have to choose from. Use the cross member from your RB20 box, no modification required, just bolt it in. The tailshaft needs to be modified to accept the new slip yoke, and if anything lenghtened about 10-15mm.

The RB20DET, RB25DET & early R32 GTR clutch setup are interchangeable.

I hope that helps

S2 gearbox and cluch will be a pain in the arse.

GTR speedo drive still works, from when I spoke to Cubes or blackr32 (or whoever it was) you still need to change cogs. Having sat the 3 (navara included) you can see why. It also costs $100 or so new, and $50-60 2nd hand. The navara is $25 new from nissan and should be a stock item.

Time to drag old threads out of the woodwork!!

My situation is that my bearings have begun to 'whine' in 1st, 2nd and 3rd after some roundabout driving last night. I am trying to decide whether it is better to have new bearings put in ~$1k with remove/refit, or to get a 25 box and have that put in ~2k with everything.

I am thinking the 25 atm as it seems like good insurance for the future although the extra money is a killer.

Advice please :P

you dont need to ask... search your feelings...

...OR quite simply - 25box!!!

i still dont get what is needed for the Navara speedo drive though :S - do i go to nissan - get navara speedo drive - pay $25 - screw it into the gearbox and then how do i get the speedo working?

lol yeh think i am leaning that way. Signed up with RACV total care today so drive this box around while i save the money :)

was it a pain in the ass to do urself huddy?

just get the yokes cut and swapped (make sure you get a box with a yoke in the end)

need a 33 clutch slave cylinder aswell...

but its all in one of these threads :S

its a LOT heavier than a 20 box thats for sure... if clutch is on the way out i'd look into that aswell.

had a few fiddley little probs with mine - like changing pivot balls etc but i think we just confused ourselves. should be box out, box in

1st thing thats a massive jip at $1k I would think anyway. I paid $900 or something for all the bearings box in box out AND a new selector for 5th/reverse as I smashed that (that alone was $350!) so really Id get a few more quotes, should be $600-700 I guess. That and or just change the oil see how you go with that? But hey it still works, might last a fair while.

BTW my RB25 box conversion cost about $3200... When we pulled it all down I needed a new drive shaft as the stockos one bearing had also gone, the one piece was cheaper than repairing the old one (and weights less so we got a bit back there) clutch was shot, as was the lightweight fly wheel, so they both had to be replaced. So I guess just keep that in the back of your head. Thats also assuming you can find an rb25 box for a decent price.

whats to say that when you buy a 2nd hand rb25 box for whatever stupid dollars they go for, that they dont have worn syncro's and gearsets etc etc..

rather rebuild the 20 box with a new gearset and keep the weight down.. and keept it around 1K...

damn you and ur logical thinking!! my problem is that if I do rebuild the bearings etc then a week later I clutch kick 3rd and SMASH. box is f**ked again.

thats whats making me toss up between them :S

well depending on clutch and driving style should tell you what box you need..

if you wanna clutch 3rd hard and continually with a twin plate - it wont last long... i know... :(

i still think 25box would be better... my box / fitting / yoke swap / slave cost just under $1500!!!

Ok I've had it done.

Transtunnel is fine. Dont need to touch it.

Obviously clutch, fly wheel etc all the same.

You will need an R33 clutch slave, I got mine new from nissan for $88.00.

Yes you need the R33 yoke, then you need the cef tailshaft, the idea would be to shorten this. However if your center bearing is stuffed like mine, then you might want to look at getting a 1 peice shaft as this is cheaper than replacing the center bearing apparently (lighter also, so you get back some of that extra weight of the gearbox + less rotating mass)

Rb20 cross member is fine, we just moved mine and put some spacers in. You might need an engineer to look at this to make sure its legal. Mine is actually mod plated.

The speedo... You need your red gear off the R33 speedo sender (the one that goes in the gearbox) this then needs to be attached to a navara speedo drive (32702 - 02G17 pinnion assembly), should be about $22-25 new from nissan, this then connects up to your speedo cable like normal. Just test it tho, should be pretty accurate.

Get some of the seals replaced on the box if they need it. You REALLY dont want oil leaking on to your clutch.

Get your fly wheel/pressure plate/clutch all checked out while the box is out. I had to replace mine that was a cost I didnt allow for.

And why does the gear selector matter? Wouldnt your RB25 box come with one? I dont belive we used my RB20 one.

But yeah, once its done your more afraid your crank is going to snap in your poor little rb20 than your gearbox :)

digging up the old threads AGAIN... - ok i originally put in the 'yellow' bit coz it came out of a auto rb25 box - simply to plug it up so oil would stay in. If i get the navara bit - it should be able to just clip on then plug speedo cable in to navara bit?

BIG THANKS - sorry bit confused with this subject...

Yeah, should be hey dude... I only paid $22 for it hey. Maybe ring up another nissan dealer? Some do kinda make up their own prices.

But yeah, you wouldnt believe it, its the only invoice I cant find in my file. I even found stuff I didnt realise I bought for the car in there!

lol ok thanks champ - i'll ring around and see what i can get.

they were very curious how i got the part number though as they dont like giving them out ROFL... meh

Well, if you ring them up and ask 'navara speedo drive' they then ask which one. How the hell do they expect you to get parts without the part number.

I just double checked my PM box. The orginal message off skyrine dave said he used a "32702 - 02G17 pinnion assembly"

So thats the one. Good luck man.
