Just read in the "Smokin" column on page 39 of the latest Wheels mag, and it writes that when the R32 GTR first lobbed into Australia the great man himself Kerry Packer(RIP), bought one and then 2 more (which model not known), and was regularly seen driving to work in one.

From Wheels:

"That day was the beginning of a long-lived affair. Kerry Packer eventually bought three GT-Rs. Through the 90's I would sometimes spot him in one, driving himself to the office. It says something about the man that he chose a relatively affordable Nissan, even though he could have afforded anything he desired."

Who would of known that Kerry Packer was a great fan of the GTR...just puts a smile on my face and enforces my love for the red emblem. :(

I seem to remember he entered one of them in the Targa Tassie events in 1993 or there abouts. Can't remember who drove it other than the fact that kevin Bartlett had some involvement...

Kevin Bartlet drove Packers R32 in Targa in 93 and 94 from memory. Packer was to go nav but pulled out last minute.

A mate of mine bought what he understands is his Packers former R34 a while ago.

Well, the man obviously had good taste.

Yes he sure does B) , especially considering that the man could have afforded "any" other exotic sport car in the world.

I don't think I know of any other high profile figure to have a interest in GTR's let alone the "very" high profile Mr Packer.

Don't even think others would even consider it in any instance, and most likely dismiss it with a snoobish attitude, as it is not European.

Given that Mr Packer loved it, say's a lot about the man, and volumes for the car :D

the gtr r32 he brought which 'first lobbed' into australia probably cost  150 grand in todays terms. hardly sounds 'relatively affordable ' to me.

They where actually $110,000 fromt the Nissan dealer at the time, but I believe they dropped in the range of $90-80k as sales where few and slow.

He has acertain GTR which has a lot of work done to it, built by the very same people that had some success racing them.;)

Black but looks std, but pretty close to a Grp A car.

Would of been quite a sight to have seen him in this car :P

So it would be a VERY fast car then? Or just really quite fast?
