Petrol Smell

hey ppl i just bought my skyline 2 weeks ago and everytime i go to start it gets a really strong petrol smell it has a bigger fuel pump could this be the problem or would it have a fuel leak somewhere

All Japanese import cars run rich mate, my 33 GTS always has a strong smell of unburnt petrol becasue it is tuned for the higher RON japanese fuel; we have a lower octane fuel here so it runs rich.

if its something that concerns you a lot, you can buy a programmable ECU and lean out the mixture a bit. should improve efficiency.

no, that shouldnt be the case. A simple test to see if you have a fuel leak is when u take off ur fuel filler cap near empty you should get a PHSSST noise... I dont get it in mine and I get a fuel smell coming from the fuel cap. Possible breather hoses have perished I just havnt had time to take all the shit off and find out how to get to it. Anyone know an easy way??

ye i checked that today when i take the fuel cap off it dosnt make any noise and i pulled on the cap and the hole cap came off with the metral part inside thats most probebly my problem i heard it is comon on skylines for this to happen
