Hey guys have finished the first stage of the engine Bay tidy up!

Have post some before and after pics

Have finished tidying up the exterior of my Purple R33 GTR and now to the engine bay!

The car was only recently imported and the *lovely* previous japanese owner spent thousands on quality upgrades for this GTR and then had the bright idea of painting the rocker covers baby blue :D

I throw it out there to my fellow skyline enthusiasts of some options I have to make it look better than what it is now (isnt going to be hard)

Here are some of my thoughts

(1) paint rocker covers same colour of car (purple) or R34 red or a grey hammertone look as I saw on the white Mines R34 GTR?

(2) polish the plenum and other bit that has "twin turbo" written on it

I don't want a show car just want the thing to look a little better than baby blue which looks like it has been applied with a spray can

Any comments or photos of other engine bays that look hot will be appreciated, or if anyone knows of any good metal polishers can they let me know.

Cheers

*sits back and waits for the flood of brilliant ideas*

Melv - There's a few nismo goodies under there good for about 300kw at the paws ;) Purple was my first thought however the Mines R34 GTR rocker cover paint job is growing on me. Have a look in HPI, I think its the most recent one with the new GTR on the cover.

Mushroom - Hot!

Did you polish yourself ;) or did you get some one to sweat for you? ;) What aftermarket plenum do you have? Might have to pop around for a look for ideas ;)

Col - Had exactly the same car as you previous to the GTR :) great car and even though it had half the power, I still miss the driving sideways at every possible opportunity :) Can't beat a 500hp GTR but!! (maybe a 600hp GTR or 700hp or 800hp......*starting to drool and wallet is having heart attack*)

Thanks guys keep the ideas comin B)

this is wat we are doing to mine at the moment

1. i made a custom wiring harness (to hide all wiring, relays and fuses)

2. engine covers in carbon fibre

3. all hoses/lines replaced with braided ones

4. every nut, bolt, washer, bracket etc chromed

basically i took wat we did with this S2000 and did the same to my engine bay

i dont know how far u wanna strip ur engine bay

but if u neaten up all your hoses and wires

paint ur engine covers same colour as your car

polish ur intake plenum, other piping and strut brace

throw in some braided lines

get a nice partition for your air filters and polish it

i could go on forever but it all depends on how far u wanna take it

I use a greddy plenum just haven't put the sticker back in yet :D

yeah I have polished some myself, other bits professionally.

you are more than welcome to come round and have a look

Get the full NISMO piping kit, polish the rocker covers, get the HKS Kansia carbon spark plug and timing belt cover, the GREX oil filter moval kit, PWR Radiator, Blue silicone pipes everywhere, carbon box for pods, polish the plenum, and carbon Garage Defend air guide. . . . . . . .

You know you want to. . . . I can live out my dream through someone else then :P

Decisions, Decisions Decisions !!!!!!! Thanx Guys for some great ideas

2Gu up - How much patience do you have :( your engine bay looks unreal, however I'm not looking for a show bay as yours is just a tidy up. Think I will do things along the lines of what you said to do :)

Mushroom - What person did you get your plenum polished at and was he local? Might give you a call next time i'm in Brissy thanx for the offer. I think you also got out-blinged by 2Gu up

M&M - ARGGGGH ! Yours looks unreal! That is exactly what I am after! What colour is your covers painted in? Decisions Decisions! Congrats on a neat engine bay, pity your in Vic unless I'd come around have have a look.

Jas - Says he who has money now :P Good to hear you still pine for the GTR :D Withdrawal symptoms suck. Just go sit in the corner of a dark room and gently rock back a forward muttering GTR, Twin Turbo, 2.6, 4wd..... :(:):)

So far I'm thinking

Covers purple

Polish plenum and intake bit

tdy up wiring and stuff and may be some aftermarket lines and hoses

Keep the ideas coming as the end of the week decisions have to be made and it will be the time for action!

Cheers guys :)

    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
    • Thanks Paul I reached out to Autotainment but they no longer work on JDM cars as the guy who used to do the work moved on and is no longer doing that kind of work. I am talking with Level Up Audio though.
