I love supra's but ive got a under 20K budget... for awhile i was considering the r33 gts-t because value for money... (for the value i dont think there are any negatives) but i love supras, my favorite car. and im considering gettin a NA. stock for stock both cars have about the same power etc.

if i got the NA supra i would turbo it, first thing ill do. ive heard of turbo kits to give 600hp, cost around 10K

so after 2 years id have a full blown motor in the car i like most

or should i buy the r33 do it up and mayb 5 years from now get a TT version...

im so confused....

also a turn off is driving a NA for a year... id hate for car enthuseists to go "oh nice car... oh its none turbo... pfftt"

what are your opinions??

Yeah dont get the NA. I have a R32 with an RB35DE (factory) and I want a turbo now... I'm in the same boat, that now I'm looking to upgrade to a R34, I want a turbo, but really only have a budget for an NA...

So I will be waiting a few months I guess...

dude you're on a skyline forum what kind of opinions do you expect to get.

ask on a toyota forum and you'll get the exact opposite suggestions.

there is no chance in hell you'd wanna drive the same car for 5 years, i bet ya you'll get sick of it after 2 years max.

Why?

It would cost you a lot less to buy a RZ than to get an SZ and buy a turbo kit on it, and then have to uprate everything else to cope with the extra power.

And I'm no 2JZ expert, but 600hp out of a stock NA bottom end sounds a bit like wishful thinking.

Probably the best course of action would be to get the NA Supra. Once you get used to that, swap in the 5.0 litre 1GZ-FE engine from the Toyota Century.

Displacement, cc 4996

Engine model 1GZ-FE

Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 280 ps (205.94 kw) / 5200 rpm

Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 49.0 kg*m (480.53 N*m) / 4000 rpm

Power density 7.14

Engine type V type 12 cylinder DOHC

Engine information VVT-i

Fuel system EFI (electronic fuel injection)

Turbocharger No

Fuel type Unleaded premium gasoline

LEV system (Low emission vehicle) No

Compression ratio 10.5

Bore, mm 81

Stroke, mm 80.8

Then add two turbos and stir.

Don't forget the number plates: Supra V12 or something similar

Dont get the NA supra or you'll regret it wishing you went twin turbo.

you have 20G's to spend,. find a nice mildly moded GTST and spend a little on it.. they will be faster than any NA supra and will be about the same with any stock twin turbo supra..could be more.

i drive an r33 gtst... i love that car...its my second r33 in fact...and now i have just purchased an RZ 6spd which will be in my driveway in a couple of weeks time next to my r33.

I was in the same predicament mate. I'm a die-hard supra fan, love Toyotas, love Supras, but I only had 20k to play with as well.

I bought an R33 Gts-t and definately haven't looked back. My mate has an n/a Supra and while they are fast for what they are, the Gts-t is faster and feels a hell of a lot more powerful too.

The Supra is a far more refined ride, but when it comes to performance the RB25DET wins hands down. Moreso if you spend 3k and add zorst, cooler and boost.

Now that I've spent 10k on it I realise that if I had have waited and bought nothing, I would have enough for a TT now... but that's beside the point. Turboing the n/a is not a viable option. Either get the Gts-t or stick with a shitter till you have enough for the TT. This could be a good idea.

Oh, an R33 Gts-t with 10k spent on it will shit on a stock RZ. But spend some money on the RZ and it's bye bye Skyline.

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.

    • Welcome Gabriel. At least your car has a glorious RB and not the shitty CA18. As MBS206 mentioned all the good bits can be added later. Two doors or four?
    • And half of them have been converted to turbos.
