Cheers, yeah Im real glad I saw the add from Satanic maybe 5mins afterhe posted them for sale. LOL

Pretty sure I will have the rubber taken off, 1 rim repaired from gutter rash, and then head to our business's powdercoaters for a gunmetal grey powdercoat finish, I think.

Then save for new tyres, so it wont happen too quickly (my wife just got robbed today) due to cash constraints, but thats neither here nor there I guess.

Robbed? She alright?

Cheers, yeah a bit shaken.

Long story......

Plus baby got 3 needles today so hes CRYING away, and she's in the Stag, but thats now at the Drs 'cause she doent know how to start it properly, and her mobile keeps discharging & she cant put it into the car charger correctly

Geez..... sometimes it doesnt pay to get out of bed! :)

OK.

Got the wheels on the way... yay!

BUT - how will the 17's go in terms of the speedo & gearbox?

To those that upgraded from 16's to 17's, is there a noticable change to your speedo calibration?

Ta, Brendan

Hi Brendan,

Not so much the wheels, more the tyres and the overall diameter or rolling distance.

Check this link scroll right down to "A tyre size calculator" pump in the standard size and the new rim size and your new tyre size ad see what the difference is. You can work out what tyre size will get you the closest but there is also some variation in different brands of tyres that you may need to account for (they don't measure correctly)

Hope that is of some help.

Cheers

Thanks heaps Luke

appreciated - thats a huge help.... so at 60kms on the speedo, I'll be going 1.88% faster than shown, ie 61kmsph

going from 225/50/16 to 235/45/17

No worries,

So your gearing will be fractionally higher with the new wheels, it is pretty small though!

Luke

NOO.

STOP THE PRESS. DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THAT!

From my Jap placard, the stock tyres should be 205/60/15. I spent AGGESS looking for the right tyre in all rim sizes, and when i got my GTT rims i went for 225/45/17 which were closest. I also went for inaccuracies which caused my speed to be a TAD lower then my speedo because then I know i am safe.

All in all, based on GPS speed readings at 100km/h (accurate) my speedo is only off by 3km/h, meaning the speedo is reading 103km/h. Which is perfect

Also, Luke, what is going on with your car, when do you want the wheels shipped?

Nice pick up Alex!

Yes, you must work from the tyre placaed and not what tyres happen to be on the 16" rims at the time, you might be out before you sart! Now how does that effect you Brendan?

Nice link too!

Car should land in Brissy on the 29th of this month mate, was just thinking about the wheels and how long you have been holding them... Maybe anthoer week then we should be right to go, I'd just hate them to get lost in the workshop due to arriving too early! Let me know if that is cool?

Cheers

Luke

Stags come with 15's, 16's and in the case of RS260's 17's, so...... not sure about all this.

Mine had 16's as standard.

Either way I'll make sure when driving that I'll work to roughly a 4% margin for error

Yeh luke thats fine.

Brendan look on your placard to find out what the stock tyre was (The jap one, not the one the compliance shop made up)

I think nissan would have used 15/16 inch tyres which would be the same, saves money over the long term. About the autech, well its a new gearbox/ratio anyway, so no engineering there

the series 2 rs four s comes with 17's standard :)

Yes, but that is irrelevant here as the S2 is the same as an R34 GTT which also came with 17's ..

Not quite, as the 17inch wheels (standard) on my R34 GTX Turbo (which I think had better wheels than the standard GTT) were the 8inch wide (AVS) ones. Where as the wheels on my 2001 RS 4 S (standard) are 17 inch but 7.5 inches wide... :D

(Yep, been looking at the wheels.. :)

I reckon they are perfect. Handling well, not too hard a ride, cheaper tyres, can get replacements if you write them off, great wheels overall!

The Ventus K104 tyres also have a road damage warranty. If any damage comes to the tyre from normal use, they'll repair or replace free of charge in the first 12 months. I found the Hankook K104s to be an excellent tyre and actually had reason to use the warranty twice in the first 12 months - ran over a plank on the road that was covered in nails and hit a fallen tree branch at high speed that put a balloon in the side wall.

I drive my car very hard and I got over 20000ks out of them, most unusual for me! They do get very slippery when they start to get low though.

  • 2 weeks later...

whoo hoo - get my K104's put onto the R34 GTT mags today, and fitted.

will take some happy snaps....... and then in a few weeks time will have the Bilstein suspension installed, along with some of the Whiteline goodies.

its all coming together nicely...... =-)

grrr pics now!

patience young Padawan, patience.

I will use all my powers of the force and produce some pics tonight, in the meantime I simply must continue practising crushing peoples Trachea's with my mind (Darth Vader style) :P
