Hey everyone im waitin for my new turbo to arrive n decided to replace it myself but as its my daily driver ive gotta have it back on the road asap so ive only got a day to to do the swap (would be a sunday).

Ive had a look with a mate an read the articles but neither of us have ever done anything like this before an with the small time frame i dun think its gonna happen.

Soooooo... if any of you are experienced with replacing turbos on rb25s, reckon ya can do it easily in a day (we can both help) live in Perth n wanna make sum quick cash gimme a shout. The turb im replacin it with is a direct bolt on replacement with internal wastegate to3/to4 (to4e)

Cheers Lee

Sorry Lee, I am not in Perth so I can't help on the day. But a word of warning before you start, it might help save you from a lot of aggravation. I have NEVER EVER seen a replacement turbo (other than a high flow of the standard turbo) bolt up without making stuff. modifying parts, buying extra/different nuts and bolts or water and oil fittings. It is not that simple, I guarantee that you will need to buy stuff or have it made or modified and you won't be able to do that on a Sunday.

What I done have that works (sometimes) is to take off the standard turbo on a Friday night and compare it closely with the turbo you want to put on. Then go out first thing on Saturday morning and buy the parts that you need. Do your homework first, make sure the place you are going to buy the stuff from has stock and is open on Saturday mornings.

Better still go to your local turbo shop on the Monday (gives them time to get in parts) before the weekend you are going to do the work, armed with the new turbo and ask them what you will need to fit it in place of the standard turbo. If they know what they are doing there is a good chance you will get 99% of what you need. Still do the Friday comparison though and make sure they are open on Saturday morning for the other 1%.

Hope that helps

1. I did the same turbo model conversion on my RB20DET

2.  Popped straight in, no fuss, no worries, no hassles. Everything lined up.

3. Maybe I got lucky???

1. The only description I could see was "to3/to4 (to4e)", I have no idea how you could tell it was "the same turbo model" as yours. It might be plain bearing for a start.

2. You didn't modify anything? Bought not one single extra part? You just got a turbo and it went straight on? No new gaskets? Or broken nuts? Stripped studs? LOcking tabs? Wastegate actuator lined up perfectly? And you did the swap over on a Sunday never having done a turbo change before?

3. You're not kidding, I'd call it a miracle.

Call me a pessimist if you like, but I have NEVER EVER seen it happen and I have been working on Nissans for 30+ years.

:ban: cheers :)

hey mate im willing to come give you a hand, if i get some spare time from doing my own engine, which is 99.9% done now, just gotta do some pipework and she is ready ;)

im willing to give you advice/assistant but ive mainly only dealt with rb26's and rb30's when removing turbos, but i'd assume its almost the same as the 30, and a damn sight easier than the 26 turbos.

i dont want any cash, as i dont want to be stuck doing all the work if u get my drift :P ill advise and get dirty but i dont want to be doing the lot, as some of my mates expect when i offer help.

so if u are doing it in a month or so ill be free ;)

give me a PM and i can give u my mobile no.

do u have axle stands, a jack, spanners, sockets, rachets, etc etc?

dont forget some new copper washers, and maybe a few spare studs incase u snap one. i'd also upgrade the dump pipe at the same time as its a pain in the arse trying to put the dump pipe on the turbo while in the car later on.

cheers

Brad

Good luck...also good to see you back Brad...the beast nearly ready??? :D

yes nearly, probably around 3-4 weeks still till a tune for running in, as i work full time plus i dont get much time after work each night and that only leaves weekends when im not working.

i need bits and pieces but i never have time to goto shops and buy them as i work 7:30am-4:30pm which doesnt give me long till shops shut each night :O

i'd much rather do it all myself though, as i know its done right, and not rushed, and saves money too

cheers

Brad

A miracle happened - Call the Vatican!

The turbo is a T03/04 Ball bearing that came off my nephew's R33. We fitted it in 4 hours and used the same gaskets off his 33. We didn't break or strip anything doing it and it was my first time, though his third (most of the time all I did was watch).

The gaskets have held up fine because they were only 6 months old. My nephew is putting a VK45 in his 33 so he didn't need the snail anymore and he'd only had the puppy for 6 months before it was put in mine. When we finished the job she fired up with no leaks anywhere.

I've just confirmed with my nephew that when he fitted the turbo on his 33 from new she went on with no hassles and in the same time frame.

A mystery to all....

Id choose to replace a turbo gasket with new whenever i had the chance. They are not fun to need to replace.

I also chose to use copper lock nuts when i attached the dump pipe, didnt want to have the thing rattle off.

Better to be safe then sorry.
