The main track at Calder is IMO the crappest track in Vic by far.

Its not overly difficult, it's bumpy in places (like the end of the straight) it's nasty if you make a mistake (2 skylines in 05 visited the walls there) and since I can do a lap in just over 60s you can guess its not overly technical.

But the straight is quite fast (since its also used as a drag strip) and I reach speeds of 245km/hr. But - compared to Sandown or PI its not as fast as them. The hill and the flip flop are quite fun though.

But for this rally event will use some different confiugurations such as the short track (which I've only done a couple of laps on for when I did the thing for Serious Performance 8 dvd) but also we get to have a crack at the dome which none of us have had a go on (at least in our own cars).

So for this event half of the appeal is getting to drive some unknown tracks.

I'm a big Dutton fan - not cheap but a lot of fun.

It all comes down to what you want to get out of the event -

if you're driving anything but a Porker you'll find it hard to get noticed, meaning litte to no TV/mag coverage. (unless ocourse you do a Pete and drift the khana course, compete with a reverse slide into the finishing garage.

If you're in it to win- you might find a Skyline (unfortunatey) is not suited to the wide range of events - you'll place high but find winning tough.

If you're in for a good weekend you'll have one - even if you end up with a bloke like Pete in your team . I still have "fond" memories of the sound at 2am of Pete falling 2 stories off a hotel balcony, narrowly missing landing on the Lancia Delta Integrale parked below.

Am really keen on doing the NSW section if I can get my new toy in time. Dont really care what position I come in, the thought of being able to legally tool around in my car and enjoy some drunken entertainment afterwards is really appealing to me.

The pace of some of the Vic boys in the GTRs shows that with a bit of experience the GTR can beat a well sorted EVO...so who knows what the GTRs can do now that some of the owners have a bit more experience.

One day i would liek to do the Dutton, but doubt it will be this year, the old R32 needs a new hip and open heart surgery, so nbo funds left for tyres, the entry, accom, fuel etc etc :D

May put my name down as an official though so i cna tyre kick :)

Yeah last weekend showed some very suprising results.

The Calder Rally Masters (which is basically a mini-Dutton type of event) had Scotsman and I up against one of the Road Touring Rally guns - Jeff Beaumont in his EVO VI. This guy won the 2005 GP Rally in this car and when teamed up with Peter Gazard should have won the 2005 Dutton Vic - except for a mistake on the 2nd last event that cost them 90 points (got beaten by 37 points in the end so....).

But on the weekend both Scotsman and I were able to beat Jeff in a number of events. Suprisingly they were on the slower - tighter motokhana events rather than the speed events. But it did show we were able to be very competative against the best of these Road Touring guys in a Skyline. And consider both of our cars run full interiors and Scotsmans GTR still runs a stock engine with stock turbo's and just has an exhaust, ECU, cam gears and nicely set-up suspension there is no reason why you can't go out and be competative in these events in any skyline. (for reference Scotsman and I came 2nd and 3rd outright in the event at Calder just behind Jeff in the EVO).

Nice Job Snowman... but I can't believe you forgot that I was Kel's Co-driver in the 350 for the 2004 Dutton... So mean! ;)

I had a blast doing dutton, and have been thinking about doing it again, but unfortunatly this year it is the weekend after the first round of Drift Australia in South Aus, so it just might be pushing it a little. Might still consider it.

Dan.

Dutton is fun.

In 2005 we had a few SAU entrants and it was awesome to have the encouragement, comradery and support. I'm keen to give Dutton another shot after finding some speed in the tight stuff at Calder Rally Masters.

yes i have got a co-driver (best mate he is a toyota jza70 boy thow )and yes entered last week the car is just about ready just got to get a oil cooler do a 1/4 mil run with the standed turbo and with the set up i have got

going to put a neo rb25 turbo on, new manifold and water pump, cam wheels and fingers crossed this well all hold to gether

were hopeing to give the wrxs , evos and gt4s a good run for there money as the car handels well just lacking power and being the rb20 gts4 this is all we will be up against

Well in breaking news, the real talent behind Scotsmans 2nd at Calder Rally Maters is teaming with the real talent behind Snowman's 3rd at Calder Rally Masters.

With an abundance of charm, good looks and ability, combined with the mechanical superiority of the R32 GTST, well im not shy about letting others know my expectations come September; R32 GTST takes down R34 GTR V-Spec

This times its personal :pwned:

    • Son, in this country, that is a piece of Gyprock. f**king drywall. FFS! I also like the autocorrect of trailer to tablet. I was reading it and thing, "what the hell drugs is he on?" Then the photo made it clear enough.
    • SO whats the deal with this issue? I've read a heap of posts from the infinity owners in the US having full engine swaps done under warranty. Most claims are done on earlier cars than 2019 but I'm sure I've come across claims of 2020 models also having this issue. I like the 400r and Q50Red/S but can't fathom dumping close to 50k on a car with terminal issues!!!
    • The above video is working normally. That is, that's how the right hand indicator should cancel when rotating the wheel left.
    • I noticed that I could see creatures on the moon when I turned my new headlights on. I thought I should check the alignment. It's pretty rudimentary but I just grabbed some dry wall and put it against my tablet and made sure the beam was below the height on the headlights. Ie the beam is at 600mm on my car, I just made it lower than that 7.5m away.  Not the best but it'll do until I can do it properly at the local shops.
    • As @Duncan said - the bores are most likely to cop it. But anything can and does happen. Rods are cheap. Rods are good. The work to rebuild the motor will be 30x the price of rods. You won't notice it.
