please dont take this as gosple but,

Import drivers as a rule have a bit more cash education and come from better families.

Usually  your inner city kids will have imports as apposed to comm and falcons as bogans dads grew up getting trashed at bathurst time and writting their peice of shit vh off!

There is classes of people simple. Pure fact deal with it and as a rule cheap shit cars are owned by cheap shit people.

Not gosple, ive got mates with nice commodores but they are not cockheads and their cars are vt onwards too so........

f**k being politically corect thats why our country is so f**ked. Go find a nice suburb in Bankstown to live. Thats where shutting your mouth and being a soft cock gets you

That f**king cracks me up. Import drivers have more cash, education, and come from better families? Give me a f**king break. Your average import driver isn't any classier than your average bogan.

Why the f**k would someone with the cash to afford a new car with a full 2-3 year, several tens of thousands of kilometre warranty, buy some shitty used car that's around a decade old?

Sure, it'll cost you more to get a new, Aus-delivered car to match an older Jap import in performance but hey, if you've got money.......

Where's the demonstration of "education" on buying a second or third hand turbo of that age, that's probably been thrashed to the shithouse by a couple of people since people in Japan don't hang on to their cars for that long? How "smart" is it to buy a 10-15 year old car of unknown history with an induction system that's known to cause more strain on the powertrain than a NA car?

For every rich guy who brings in a low kilometre, immaculate R34 GT-R (which does take a fair amount of cash) you've had hundreds of plebs buying landfill-worthy R32 GTS-t's and CA18DET S13's under the old 15 year rule....and then selling them after 6 months when they got "bored" of them, having never really learnt to drive them.

And how do you define a "better" family? If you mean the more "upper class" ones, most of them drive Euro because its all about the badge and Jap just doesn't cut it. If you're talking about well-adjusted, sensible kids...most of them aren't that into cars and end up driving econobox cars because they're cheap to run and easy to drive.

However, when I drive through the CBD on a Saturday night, who do I see driving Supras, Soarers, Skylines and Silvias? Why, its white-cap-wearing, collar-popping, hair-tinting, drug-taking, people of a variety of ethnicities, but share the common traits of saying how "sik" and "hektic" their neon and dodgy bodykitted, excessively loud, cars are. The kind of guys that'll go out in packs and get into fights (great breeding there), and the elocution and literacy skills of a primary schooler.

Sure, its not a mullet and a tank top with a tinny of VB in hand, but you're just talking about a different in uniform rather than a difference in mentality.

How are "Inner City kids" any better bred than people elsewhere? Inner City living is still cheaper and "coarser", to use a borderline non-PC term, than people living in the Eastern Suburbs and the North Shore of Sydney. Suburbs where Euro cars and private imports rule, and cheap commercial grey imports are snubbed.

But, where would I go if I wanted to not be able to turn around without seeing an import? Inner city, inner west, west. Why, the newer development areas that don't tend to have the middle-class "old money" of the North Shore, or the high flying heads of industry like the Eastern Suburbs.

The 15 year rule just nailed the last nail on the coffin for that rule. Anyone with a McDonalds wage can now afford a R32 GTSt, S13 Silvia, FC RX7 for under 8 grand on the road. Hell I was offered a street registered S13 without an engine the other day for $800, get some mates around and we could have it fully running for another couple of grand. The 15 year rule single handedly made import cars more viable to the roadgoing dickhead population.

Its not just limited to rich inner city kids these days. An R33 GTSt is cheaper to buy secondhand than a lancer. R34's are anywhere from 23k to 28k for a GTt. Well more accessible to the common market. Wind back time maybe four or five years, and how many kids below 19 did you know that bought a turbo import as their first car? How about now?

1978 holden monaro gts - less common these days, but a prime bogan car

1966 chrysler valiant regal - valiant is a bogans wet dream!

Hah ha ha ha lol!

I can almost hear the stirrings in their pants at the mention of these cars

I'm far from fitting the stereotypical bogan mould, but I still think those are really nice cars. Just because some drivers who own these cars are short staffed in the intellect department, it dosen't make them bad cars.

If anything, I find that people who drive expensive cars are much more reckless on the road.

Perhaps it's because they all have good insurance policies and it doesn't matter who/what they run into..

...and when they do run into something, money to make the probelm go away is no issue.

The more one has to lose, the more careful they are prone to be.

This thread is hilarious! Im rb20insides mate (track mangaers son) and i can vouch that the guy in the red ss was a wanker!

I rekon there is wankers everywhere reguardless of what they drive. I drive a S13 Silvia, and while nowadays they are fairly cheap and everywhere, when i bought mine it certainly wasnt like that.

I use my car for sprint meets and the occasional attempt at drifting, note: attempt. when on the road i very rarely go above the speed limit if ever.

what i will say though is that i watch a hpi dvd or something, i dont go out and try and act like a hero and do what i just watched. whereas alot of dickhead commo drivers watch a v8 supercar round and go and drive on the road like its a racetrack.

my 2c,

Neil

Come on lads EVERY ONE at some time is a dick head in there cars, it comes down to age

my first skyline cruz on saturday night and i have never seen more dick heads on the road (driving style) but it was fun

Too true.

Today I took my VL out for a spin for the first time in 2 months but I couldnt resist a bit of a squirt coming out of the roundabout lol.

Its almost impossible to go your whole life without fooling in your car atleast once. :)

this guy at my work has a shitty old auto vl, peeling paint, dints, windscreen seals redonw with silicon, vn ss mags, and a huge stereo. he could be classified as a bogan, he rips skids everywhere he goes, but hes also one of the nicest guys I know.

Well there you have it guys commodore drivers are bogans from bad families who are inferior to any import driver in intellect and have no money living under bridges and sleeping in their cars.

Funny that you have all these STUPID ideas a matter of fact ive got a vb sl/e in the shed live in a nice suburd own a r33 gts-t and i think my family is great. Hell we must'nt be doing to bad for ourselves considering the fact the i own a commodore and after all the degrading it does to my intellectual capacity and lifestyle im still pretty well off.

Funny enough i advertised the car for sale recently simply as it is a project i wont get around to finishing being as busy as i am these days and much to my suprise the guy rocking up to look at the car came up my driveway in a 60grand BMW. Im sure he will ultimately end up poor in the "cheap shit" category of people since as soon as he steps foot into the vehicle the downward spiral will begin..

Your obviously a spoilt little prat who has never been exposed to the real world. Excellent analysis to the topic at hand it good to know that there are so many people out there inferior to you. It must feel great to be able to say your a cheap piece of shit and im SO much better because you were born into the family you were.

I did a test at home

in the tx3

it seems that I am a good / nice driver going to work but coming home i am a f**king wanker with NO patience

but in the liner i am always nice and considerate

conclosion i am a wanker and a considerate driver it depends on day time and car i am in

my 2 cents again

Ok my VL cost $3000 and I dont come from a bad family does this still make me cheap shit?

Its stupid judging by how someone lives by the type of car they have, for all we know there could be guys in R33s who come from drug families and have been on the dole for 10 years.

So basically what you just said is import guys are BETTER than Commodore/Falcon guys based on their lifestyle?

Funny how alot of the Commodores in Street Commodores have had $100,000 spent on them, im sure thats from the fortnightly pay from Centrelink. :P

    • I think the concept is highlighting the various scenarios where thicker oil helps, and thicker oil potentially doesn't help and only generates heat and costs power, in turn for safety which isn't actually any safer (unless you're going real hot). If anything this does highlight why throwing Castrol 10w-60 for your track days is always a solid, safe bet.
    • Jason should have shown a real viscosity vs temp chart. All the grades have very little viscosity difference at full operating temperature.
    • Oops... I meant to include the connector  view... BR/W - power from fuse L/W - motor negative to fan control amp (and off to HVAC pin19) OR/B - PWM signal (from HVAC pin20) B --  ground
    • Yep, if you are applying filler it sounds like there is something wrong with the body lol. Safe to assume there is going to be a lot of sanding going on if your still applying fillers.  Picture a perfect bare metal panel, smooth as glass. You lay down your primer, it's perfect. (why are you going to sand it?) You lay down the colour and clear, it's perfect. No sanding at all took place and you've got a perfectly finished panel.  You won't be chasing your tail, sounds like you were prepping to start laying filler. If your happy with the body after the sanding, there is some bare metal exposed and some areas with primer, no issues at all, start laying the filler. You are safe to lay filler on bare metal or primer (of course check your technical data sheet as usual for what your filler is happy to adhere to).  This isn't a 100% correct statement. There is primer that is happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. There are fillers that are happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. Just make sure you're using the right materials for the job.  Typically if you are using filler, you would go primer, colour and clear. I've never seen any instances before where someone has laid colour over body filler (maybe this happens, but I haven't seen it before). So your plan sounds pretty normal to me.
    • I don't think there's any way someone is push starting this car.. I honestly can barely move it, and moving it and steering it is just flat out not possible. I'm sure it is, but needs a bigger man than me. I have a refurbished starter now. The starter man was quite clear and consise showing me how nothing inside a starter really should contribute to slow cranking, and turned out that for the most part... my starter was entirely fine. Still, some of the wear items were replaced and luckily it didn't show any signs of getting too hot, being unfit for use, etc. Which is 'good'. I also noticed the starter definitely sounded different, which is a bit odd considering nothing should have really changed there.... Removed and refit, and we'll pretend one of the manifold bolts didn't fully tighten up and is only "pretty" tight. GM only wants 18ft/lb anyway. I also found a way to properly get my analog wideband reading very slightly leaner than the serial wideband. There's Greg related reasons for this. The serial output is the absolute source of truth, but it is a total asshole to actually stay connected and needs a laptop. The analog input does not, and works with standalone datalogging. Previously the analog input read slightly richer, but if I am aiming at 12.7 I do not want one of the widebands to be saying 12.7 when the source of truth is 13.0. Now the source of truth will be 12.65 and the Analog Wideband will read 12.7. So when I tune to 12.7 it'll be ever so slightly safer. While messing with all of this and idling extensively I can confirm my car seems to restart better while hot now. I did add an old Skyline battery cable between the head and the body though, though now I really realise I should have chosen the frame. Maybe that's a future job. The internet would have you believe that this is caused by bad grounds. In finding out where my grounds actually were I found out the engine bay battery post actually goes to the engine, as well as a seperate one (from the post) to the body of the car. So now there's a third one making the Grounding Triangle which is now a thing. I also from extensive idling have this graph. Temperature (°C) Voltage (V) 85 1.59 80 1.74 75 1.94 70 2.1 65 2.33 60 2.56 55 2.78 50 2.98 45 3.23 40 3.51 35 3.75 30 4.00   Plotted it looks like this. Which is actually... pretty linear? I have not actually put the formula into HPTuners. I will have to re-engage brain and/or re-engage the people who wanted more data to magically do it for me. Tune should be good for the 30th!
