Gtir Boost Problem

my mate just bought a gtir and he has a problem at 4000rpm it just dies like it hasnt got spark or fuel, it doesnt stall but loses all power. just changed the spark plugs and leads and gapped them to 0.7. made no diffrence has any one had any experanice with this?

i dont know do gtirs have coil packs?

change them if they do

1 or 2 might have hairline cracks in them causing to die afta 4k

no they don't have coil packs.. distributor and leads.

my SR must have had a split in the wiring to the afm pug and when the wire moved around, it would cut power.

maybe check that out.. while idling move the afm wiring around to see if you can make it do it at idle.

then, my old rally tx3 had a split in the wiring to the ECU and it would cut power completely when moved around.

maybe check that wiring.

also, does this happen when he gets to 4000rpm always?

even if cruising with no positive manifold pressure (ie not on boost)?

or only when he has got the boot in?

does it come back to life only when he takes his foot off or what?

they don't have coil packs, but they do have a coil. igntion goes coil, dizzy, lead, plug. so if there is a faulty coil that would affect it quite badly under load. try just swapping the coil for one of a mates GTI-R that is running well and see what happens?

i though it might be the afm itself. but it could be the wiring as it doesnt happen all the time. and some times it is hard to start with out giving it a bit of a boot.
