benm
I think he is scared he'll end up without a decent team if he decides to give Williams the flick too quickly. Roy
Well its killign me that Williams are having the troubles they are. I was a huge Benetton/Ranault fan along with Williams fan. Renault have tools driving for them, which leaves me with Williams with an Aussie behind the wheel. Looking at this years season, they have had the pace to be ont he podium. When they dial the car in, Webber has the speed to grab a 3rd place. So the reliability thing is a worry, but if they can get them sorted, next year isnt looking too bad for them. They could very well be the 4th quickest team. And Webber said it himself, Renault would have rocks in their heads to take him over Kimi, so unless he wants to dance with the devil that is Red Bull, BMW etc...he is best to stick with Williams, they cant be out in the wilderness forever...can they?!?!?! Beer Baron
can i just re-state. williams is only been more reliable than one team this year....super aguri. no great achievment that. beating a team with practically zero budget and an eight year old jordan chassis... i mean they are getting pounded. plus they have had 6 double retirements.... not cool. C'mon webber. go to Maclaren.... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/104240-2006-f1-season/page/36/#findComment-2375004 Share on other sites
benm
Of those 6 double retirements how many were 2x failures as opposed to 1x failure + 1x accident? (not that it matters much) It seemed as though 1 car would die and the other would crash both in the same gp. ECR033
Only 4 double retirements for Williams by my count (may be wrong though) - with only Malaysia having both cars retire with reliability problems. Can't believe how unlucky Webber's been - to have so much unreliability (compared to Rosberg) is unbelievable. It's even worse when you take into account that he was an innocent bystander on the 2 accident related retirements as well. Malaysia - Webber (Hydraulics), Rosberg (Engine) Australia - Webber (Transmission), Rosberg (Accident damage) Europe - Webber (Hydraulics) Monaco - Webber (Exhaust), Rosberg (Accident) Britain - Webber (Accident) Canada - Rosberg (Accident) United States - Webber (Accident) France - Webber (Wheel Rim) Germany - Webber (Water Leak), Rosberg (Accident) Total Retirements: Webber: 8/12 (6 reliability related DNF's) Rosberg: 5/12 (1 reliability related DNF) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/104240-2006-f1-season/page/36/#findComment-2375655 Share on other sites
Roy
Dont really wish bad luck on anyone...but i hope Kubica bins it. If he does a good job then its likely to be enough for BMW to give him next years seat....hope JV recovers quickly form his injury Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/104240-2006-f1-season/page/36/#findComment-2375711 Share on other sites
Amaru
C'mon webber. go to Maclaren.... Read an article a few months ago which explained why this scenario would never happen, due to Webber and Mercedes motorsport manager being on bad terms after the famous Le Mans accidents. Apparantly Mercedes wanted to reduce the amount of money they paid Webber, Webber gave it to them up the hilt in the form of a signed contract, they paid and Webber was never to be involved in a Mercedes team again. Roy
Ive read similar articles...but i also have read articles saying that there were wors after the second incident...but it was all water off a ducks back because they appreciated the driver was right and they were wrong...so fair enough if the driver had a dummy spit after the accident. So not sure about that, i have read articles for and against. I dont think it would really hurt his chances. McLaren and Webber woudl only be a one year deal...surely they would put Lewis in the car sooner rather then later Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/104240-2006-f1-season/page/36/#findComment-2375817 Share on other sites
Beer Baron
yeah i thought of that angle. but things cant be too bad cause he did stick around a little while, and did keep his mouth shut! only finishing 4 of 12 races is not good enough. ctjet
21-year-old Robert Kubica will be thrown into the deep end this weekend when he deputises for the injured Jacques Villeneuve at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Villeneuve is to sit out the race weekend after his heavy crash at Hockenheim on Sunday. he shows a lot of pace on Fridays, but i still think he'll be a non-event. blackrex
Turns out that the reason for the engine failure in Marks car was a new piece of bodywork that hadn't been tested on track, and caused the bodywork to contact the waterpipes leading to/from the engine/radiator, this rubbed through the pipes causing the coolant to leak out. Silver-Arrowz
Williams have just announced Nico and Alex as the driver line up for 2007. Looks like Webber's out of Williams. Webber at Mclaren will make my day. Makes it easier to cheer on one car instead of two. But that's just a dream. Muz
Will Webber get a drive at all? To go to Red Bull is going backwards and after some of things he is credited or quoted as saying about BMW engines then BMW may also be out of the loop. Maybe Prodrive in 2008 with Subaru power? blackrex
I had noticed a distinct change in the attitude of MW in his interviews lately, going from extremely professional to quite negative about the team, so I wonder if he knew about this happening a while ago. Though why Williams have kept Nico in the race drivers seat I do not know, I think that he could have done with a years testing. I'd say that what happens to MW depends a lot on MS's decision, as there are three top seats available (Maclaren, Renault and Ferrari) with MW taking the one that's left (hopefully) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/104240-2006-f1-season/page/36/#findComment-2378740 Share on other sites
Roy
Cant say im shocked. Williams only started makign noise about Webber when his contract expired...it all came down to money. I still see Kimi doing Renault, no way MS will reture, the car is competitive and he is nbo doubt enjoying the competition and the chance to even in his twilight to hand it the young guys. So Webber??? Red Bull is my strongest tip, which isnt too bad really. Could very well be a better seat then Williams with Newey and good budget. Lets just hope that Kimienjoys the speed McLaren currently has, and his ego tells him that he can beat Alonso in the saem equipment, proving that it wasnt Alonso that has been beating him, but the car car he was driving. This leaves Webber with an obvious Renault seat. Lets hope they dont do a Ferrari 2005 and Webber gets stuck with another lemon. This sux..hopefully Frank has lived up to his, " we will be a back drop for Webber, we want to keep him but cant afford to pay him, so he is free to look elsewhere, but we want to be his fall back...wah, wah, wah" Please let Webber win GP for Williams before he leaves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roy
“As much as taking great pleasure in confirming Alex and Nico for next season, I must also commend Mark Webber for his contribution to the team over the past two seasons, as he has been a credit to himself and Williams and has never let up in his pursuit of competitive success,” Williams said. So no bad blood. Tone is that Webber may have got another option and has decided to take it...and Frank has decided togo with his the strong pairing of Wurz and Rosberg. I tell you the more i have seen of Rosberg the less impressedi am. He has suffered from reliability, but he has thrown the car off the track more then Speed, Luizzi etc. If Kubican has a strong showing then shows Rosbergs efforts in poor light Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/104240-2006-f1-season/page/36/#findComment-2378810 Share on other sites
Roy
And a quote from Alonso... “I think he is a good driver as well, fantastic person and quite honest with us, professional and again, one of the drivers that in the next five or six years we will fight with him for championships and respect on the track,” Alonso said. Even if Webber sucked as a driver, you have to be proud of how he conducts business. Mnay other drivers have good things to say about him and there seems to be mutual respect. Oh well, its a pivotal moment in his career. Im kinda sad that heand Williams have not performed better, Looks like i will have to be split between Williams and Renault. Not that big a stretch as until Benetton/Renault use to be my fav team...stopped being a fan because of the anitcs of the drivers and Fisi's quotes. COme on WEBs, can you tell im excited by this...
