At the end of the day this is the bottom line-F1 needs Ferrari more than Ferrari needs F1-they make 4400 cars a year and every car is sold with a 3 year waiting list. Id be more than happy to keep all you boys happy and have Ferrair pull out of F1-but a massive amount of peeps would not watch, and Bernie knows this and thats why the Scuderia get away with things like extra testing and thats why they have so much pull with Bernie, cause he knows how much ferrari means to F1 and his wallet.

And until a Macca driver or Renault driver wins 5 champoinships in one of these cars no one has a leg to stand on in any argument

didnt you watch F1 in the 80's?? They didnt call it the "Mclaren steamroller" for nothing...

i dont want Ferrari out of F1, everyone needs a villan. I would just would like to see them paticipate in the sport in a more fair and honest manner. Their blatent disregard of agreements really doesnt go down well with the rest of the paddock... or F1 fans

The question has always stood: If Schumacher is so good then why does he need a #2 driver entirely subservient to his needs. Or run into everyone else when the pressure is on (Like last week, for instance).

Yep, he can drive, but he has a glass jaw (& a large one at that).

I think that drum gets beaten a little too loud. More often then not MS starts the season off on the right foot, and come judgement time its only reasonable that the team support his march for the WDC. If you can point out a season where his team mate was ahead of him on points by the 5th round...i would be very interested.

Unlike McLaren, i dont recall Ferrari pulling out the team orders book when the team mates have been within afew points of each other. The MS No1 thing is a function of him being better then about everyone in the field

I think perhaps you need to check with Reubens Barricello.

Cheers

I dont recall Rubens beign asked to pull over for MS in the 1st GP of the year like DC had to for Mika etc. I dont remember Rubens or Eddie starting a season strongly where in the first 2-3 GPs qualified ahead of MS and gave themselves a chance on the points stance.

I think MS is just that good. Even Massa this year, he has been asked to sit back a few times...but even if he was allowd to race him i doubt he would have his measure

When did McLaren ever do that? I can recall Mika Hakkinnen going off his brain at Ron Dennis after a race at Spa because he had to fight with Coulthard for a place. The one time it all fell apart was in Melbourne, but that was all based around a messed up radio call which made Mika drive through the pit lane to no good purpose. They fixed it by making the two swap places on the track. It had absolutely nothing to do with championship points or anything else. Just righting a wrong.

Remember the FIA changed the rules because of the way Ferrari made a dogs breakfast of it a few years back. Was it at Indy, or another race, I can't remember.

Have a think for a little while. Ferrari (Well, let's be honest - FIAT) need F1 to generate the revenues. Do you really think that CART racing or Indy racing would allow them to bring in the hundreds of millions of dollars in sponsorship etc?

For the record McLaren won in 84, 85, 86, 88, 89, 90, 91. With three different drivers. All allowed to fight each other - just think how bad the '88 season would have been if Senna hadn't been at war with Prost - they won 15 of 16 races between them. Would have won at Imola too, except for the Williams crashing into them.

You mean the race at Jerez when Schumacher tried to punt Villeneuve off the road in order to win the world championship?

I think the point to be made here is that the championship had been decided. Coulthard was rightly pissed off & fair enough. Doesn't mean there was a greater conspiracy at hand.

from recolection, i remember an article saying that DC and Mika knew that the had the race won becuase of their overwhelming quali speed. The two of them made a gentlemans agreement that whoever got round the first corner and took the lead would be able to win the race...

im not saying that exactly what happened, i just remember reading that in a Mika Hakkinen article somewhere not too long ago

And so it was that Mika Hakkinen won his first Grand Prix. Thanks to Jacques Villeneuve and in no small part to David Coulthard as well, because David had let Mika get ahead with three laps to go - probably on orders from the pits. The team did not bother to give details of this but David was not bubbling with joy after the event... Hakkinen himself was speechless and made little sense after the race.

Sorry, you wont convince me that Mika wasnt a protected species at McLaren, and DC should have been screaming blue murder. Hell up to that point of letting Mika past in two GPs in a row, it was DC who had been winning races for them.

What do you thinlk would have happened if DC had a fuel rig jam in the nozzle nad cause long stop. In which time Mika got by, i know the pit wall would not have sent out the call for Mika to let DC resume the lead. :P Mika was lucky DC was his team mate for so many years, as DC was too much a gentlemen

It was a pretty poorly kept secret that Mika was the favoured drive at Mclaren. Newly spent more time in Mika's garage on race days. Ron and Mika were bum chums. Put personally I feel that DC peaked at Williams and his first year at Williams. After that he kinda dropped of pace.

Back when Senna and Prost were team-mates, even the Honda engineers favoured Senna. I read an interview with Prost years later and he said that he had some quiet words with the head of Honda motorsport at the time and they openly admitted that Senna was seen as a "son" because Honda saw him as a natural talent. Honda engineers didn't particularly like Prost's telling them what to do. Hence the year later Prost left Mclaren.

lets have a think how many F1 races did McLaren win in the 50's, early 60's oh thats right they were not even in F1 yet

Yeah 88 was a great year-especially with that amazing non McLaren engine in the back

Lets have another think how many races McLaren won with their own engine in the car???.......ah thats right the 'mighty engineering genious' Mclaren dont have their ownb engine-they go to Ilmor for them(no come backs about who owns what-its not called a McLaren engine, its a Merc)
