There is a difference between buying a modded GTR that the owner says has this and that and rebuilt engine etc, and one where the owner can actually show you receipts of work carried out. You can then go and speak to the person/workshop who did the work and further solidify the actual work carried out. Don't rely on what the dodgey dealer or owner says as they simply want to sell the car.

There are two ways you can go - either buy one under 24-25K and spent 7-12k fixing it, or buy one over 25K that has already had the problems sorted out or is in fact a clean example. There are plenty of thrashed one out there, so be patient. I would suggest that you look at some of the ones on here first as they will more than likely be owned by an enthusiast who has spent decent money on fixing any problems correctly.

Which ever way you go, you will ultimately end up spending similar amounts of money, unless you get really lucky.

Best of luck.

so how much is a rebuild? let's say it all goes to hell - what's the damage?

There are a few threads around but the consensus seems to be anywhere from:

Stock components, just motor out, renew busted parts, motor in = $4,000

A/m pistons, rods, new crank, head work, valves + guides, new cams, blah, oil pump, machining, etc. = up to $10,000

my genoral view after having one for a month is....

Fantastic Fun but the car feels slightly fragile in a few ways to what Im used to !

Mega systems to moiniter and maintain or they will break down fast !

Knowledge is very limited unless you find Skyline gurus and you run the risk of tradesmen guessing problems !

you really have to plan maintenance in order as engine components are very cramped.... this is a big labor time cost if you have to pay for it!

I am always asked if its a fake ???

Everyone with a playstation thinks there your friend and is getting one soon !
