isnt that like DUMB??

get a shortshift kit.. like everyone else said..

much cooler..

and that you can be proud of..

"hey guys.. i got a short shift kit!"

"thats cool"

OR

"hey guys.. i just cut down my gearstick"

"good for you, you cheapo bastard"

The bad thing with short shifters is they tend to munch the syncho's and not all short shifter are actually shorter in length.

When they say short shifter, they are talking about the throw distance between gears, not the length of the shifter.

I cut down the shifter on the old Stanza (shut up, it was a cool car !!!) and it was great.

If I could wack an inch off the R33 length I'd be happy.

J

But with the R33 maybe 32's the gear stick is a tappered shaft..

About 1.5" diam out of the box then tappers out at the top to put the gear knob on??

You can cut off the bottom cos there is a cir-clip or something securing it to the box??

I may be wrong, just a observation when i had the console apart one time

by cutting the shifters length you're getting closer to the fulcrum of the earstick... it won't change how fast you change gears though (would it?) coz you haven't changed that in any way, jus moved your hand closer tot he base...

I think the japs have a better term for short shifter... "quickshift" which is what I think it is... its not shorter most often.

Get a quickshift and cut it... then you'll own every1's ass

Well then wouldnt it make sence to try cutting the std gear stick, if ya don't like it then get the quick shift?

Word of caution: there is a rubber cushoning bush inside the belled out bit of the stick cutting this out would tranfer gearbox shock through to your wrist. If ya know what i mean!?

my 2 cents ex Gst.

next time u drive ur car

put ur hand under the nob and shift

u will notice ur hand will move less distance

and then move it further down again and try that

by this time u should really notice a reduced shift throw

so this will show u have just reduced the shift either way
