im hvin some trouble with my car its an r32 with an rb20 its got a fmic 3" dump pipe Stock front and cat and a 3.5" cat-back. i recently put a r33 hi flow turbo on. originally i had no boost controller and it would start boostin at bout 3000rpm very slowly till it reached 0.5 bar at a bit after 4000rpm (i think i wasnt payin that much attention) then i put a boost controller on and turned it up a bit and it would start boostin at the same point and very slowly till it got to 4200rpm then comes on very strong but when u change gears it doesnt hold boost very well with the stock turbo it would spin a little into 2nd but not it spins a lot less then lags a bit more before it gets back on power thanks for ur help

I have a R34 GTT highflow and it is heaps laggy even compared to a non highflow GTT turbo. full boost is 4500rpm.

my advice is to get a full exhaust and all supporting mods and get a proper tune using remap stock ecu or PowerFC.

got an r33 hi-flow on my r32

fullboost ~4.5k, but once its there its hold on, though i have the same problem on gear changes, flatshift might be the way :P

i'm planning on loosening up the bov a bit to keep it spooling a bit longer at the moment it just wa-cha-chas

You seem to have identical response to mine when i ran a highflow on my rb20. Unfortuanely the shift between 1st and 2nd drops you below the boost threshold (as more than likely you will have the tyres spinning through first) which is something you just cant fix short of installing some form of antilag system.

What should be happening is when you plant it in second it will break traction when boost comes on about 4k. And the 2nd-3rd shift should keep you on boost with minimal lag on the shift. Unfortuantely you have to be on the ball now to drive it quickly, you have to keep the revs up and run it out to redline and your engine will get tired as a result.

Im running a High-flow on a RB20, with 260 degree 8.8mm lift cams installed it starts boosting at 3000rpm, and makes 15psi at about 3800rpm.

This is alot earlier boost compared to when i had stock cams with the same turbo.

Maybe try some cams with bigger lift to get earlier cylinder filling, or play with some cam gears.

hmmm i would like cams, cause it does give a better power delivery, but atm, i would like to ECU, better money there.

a quick question, where did you get those little pics of the skylines, that you make up yourselves?? :P

i thought i was the only one with a highflow on a rb20 that comes on a 4k..

im not spending thousand bucks on cams that will give me 200rpm earlier boost

It actually starts boosting at 3000rpm, in forth gear it can make full boost as early as 3600rpm. This is atleast 400rpm earlier than the stock cams with this turbo, and the cams only cost me $600 second hand.

The money would be better spent on an ECU if you didnt have one, but once you have and ECU,and all the other basic mods cams are a good option, especially to make the car less laggy, and more streetable.

    • Just planning to have the wiring neat and hide as much as possible.
    • The sodium acetate, mixed with citric acid, doesn't actually buffer each other. Interestingly though, if you used Sodium Acetate, and acetic acid, THAT becomes a buffer solution. Additionally, a weak acid that can attack a metal, is still a weak acid that can attack a metal. If you don't neutralise it, and wash it off, it's going to be able to keep attacking. It works the same way when battery acid dries, get that stuff somewhere, and then it gets wet, and off it goes again breaking things down. There's a reason why people prefer a weak acid, and it's because they want TIME to be able to be on their side. IE, DIY guys are happy to leave some mild steel in vinegar for 24 hours to get mill scale off. However, if you want to do it chemically in industry, you grab the muriatic acid. If you want to do it quicker at home, go for the acetic acid if you don't want muriatic around. At the end of the day, look at the above thumbnail, as it proves what I said in the earlier post, you can clean that fuel tank up all you want with the solution, but the rust that has now been removed was once the metal of the fuel tank. So how thin in spots is your fuel tank getting? If the magazine on the left, is the actual same magazine as on the right, you'll notice it even introduces more holes... Well, rust removal in general actually does that. The fuel tank isn't very thick. So, I'll state again, look to replace the tank, replace the fuel hanger, and pump, work out how the rust and shit is making it past the fuel filter, and getting into the injectors. That is the real problem. If the fuel filter were doing its job, the injectors wouldn't be blocked.
    • Despite having minimal clothing because of the hot weather right now, I did have rubber gloves and safety glasses on just in-case for most of the time. Yes, I was scrubbing with my gloves on before, but brushing with a brush removes the remaining rust. To neutralize, I was thinking distilled water and baking soda, or do you think that would be overkill?
    • You can probably scrub the rust with a toothbrush or something. After you get the rust off flush well with water to neutralize and you will probably want to also use a fuel tank sealer to keep it from rusting again.
    • The sodium citrate solution is designed to buffer the citric acid to keep it from attacking metal quite so much, the guy that came up with that recipe did a ton of testing on how much metal loss occurs over time and it's nothing crazy unless you forget about it for months:
