So what happens if other things are stuffed?

Eg, gearbox, diffs both front and rear, rust spots in different areas, poor or worn interior, exterior, etc.

There are a lot of other things that get worn along the way, which you wouldnt normally consider replacing.

Considering the purpose of this discussion it would be fair to add that your engine was also rebuilt in Japan before you bought it

yes, that's true, a bit of cheating i guess :)

but standard rebuild only, no big dollar bits. ;)

Which is why Id grab a R33 based GTR, ie a 1997 Nissan Stagea RS260 GTR based wagon.

But I keep forgetting that manuals exist - being 6ft8in tall and with 7 knee surgeries, manuals arnt for me.

I think all the comments i read above were pretty close to the mark.

Plus i would like to add the main reseasons i see most rb26 fault

1/People think they can just turn up the boost on a 15 year engine and trush the guts out of it and it shouldn't have a problem but you must remember the rb26 make power like no other motor it's size or age and it there for put under stress like no other.

2/The mods are done wrong or in the wrong order and things like std ceramic turbo wheels and oil control that are over looked that can cause engine failure.

3/I think the reseason rb20/25 dead engine story arn't told as much as its much cheaper and easier to just grab a replace second hand engine and just drop in, or they upgrade at that stage.

4/Plus alot of the guys going to really push hard on an engine will generaly start with a rb26 over a rb20/25 if money allows.

personally i had a great run out of my rb26 which i lent on hard for 2 years and only had a problem when i left it in the hands of my d..khead brother. But i exspected to rebuild at some stage after run 530rwhp on std internals for 2 years. I believe the rb26 would substain 400rwhp for ever in a day if looked after well.

I think alot of people have unrealistic expextations from the GTR if you paid under 25000 4 the r32

brought a tx3 4 3000 knowing i would have to rebuilt it at some stage and did not care to spend 5000 on it but now it run imaculate

so y would some one spend 30000 and not have a spear 5000 to take it a mechanic and do timing belt + the rest of the belfs ,cvs proper magor service full leak and compresion test.

after car mech a1 then mod

people buy them with out thinking they will need to spend money apart from insurance and mod then go boom

poor gtrs

i was lucky , i got a real freshy.... for now i am that impressed with the r32gtr i dont want to whind it up unless i know it wont hurt the driveline ,so i am doing as much research as i can...

i would luv to give it a bit more psi but those ceramic things scare the shit outta me.

Question guys ... if i left this car like this in standard form and drove it to its limits of power . Would it stay virtualy as fresh with in reason with regular servicing.

Curious because rb30ets i have had have gone way over the 450000km in standard form ?

WELL it depends on a few things the previous history of the gtr but yes i think the gtr would last a very long time in std form but i would still loss the std turbos as they are between 12 to 17 years old depend on year of manufacture. A set r34 are still ceramic but only a few years old and can be had quiet cheap (plus they are a better turbo) or the cheapest after market would be the gt2560r 707160-5 able to be bolted on to std format with out stressing the motor at low boost. The only other thing that would most likely come alone would be the clutch but that happens on any performance car.

I have an R32 GTR and i have never had a problem with the motor. The stock clutch is a different story though (but thats what you get with 4WD i guess).

Just steer clear of the dodgy dealers and make sure you get it checked over by a mechanic that knows these types of cars. I dont know if NRMA are any good at inspecting GTR's?

Now this is a very broad generalisation,it is not intended to offend anyone, but it appears to me that more performance enthusiasts buy GTR's, and GTS's are bought by guys with less performance aspirations.

The GTR guy will push the envelope, the GTS guy is happy with 220rwkw.

Whether this is driven by available funds or attitutude,I dont know, but I would never consider buying a GTS,not sure how other GTR owners feel about owning a GTS,this is just my opinion.

Cheers

wanna get anymore broad?

i think the number of people blowing thier RB25 turbos would out-weight the RB26 turbo family.

But i think RB26 owners sometimes as too much, and have people who work on them with not enough idea/expiriance to do a good job

They all pop when used for motorsports and pushed to there limits, its only a matter of when

m&m not sure about your post, I've got 400+rwkw at 20psi and have ran a 10 second pass with pump fuel and radial tyres in my GTS what have you done in your performance enthusiasts GTR

I said it was a broad generalisation.

My GTR makes 370rwkw on 98octane,am putting 110 in it in a fortnight and hoping to emulate your 10 with 400+rwkw.

Plus I drive my GTR for 8 hours a day,1000km a week,its my repmobile,enthusiastic enough for you.

Well,I've had the car for 4 months, and as I drive it every day,all the time, getting it off the road to get it prepared isnt an option.

Before that I put 187,000kms in 4 years on a 250rwkw S15 that blew the clutch and gearbox first time out at Calder.

Do you do 1000km a week in your car.Do you drive it around for 8 hours, then roll up at the track, race, drive it home, then take the kids to sport in the morning.

Next time I see a rep in 370rwkw Skyline I'll dip my hat to him.

Sorry if my comment upset you,its just that I've been driving for 25 years and I've never seen anyone lust after a lesser model of a car.

hahah you are right GTSt drivers ARE all soft

Anyway, my GTR does an average of 1 engine every 1.5 races over a sample of 3.

:P

but like Mr Edit said "people fu(king with them who dont know what their doing" thats my problem
