Hi guys.

Has anyone had any trouble with climate control panel lights not working. (when you turn on headlights etc)

I pulled it out and found that the globes were blown, and was too hard to find new ones.

I replaced them with globes and holders from an XF Falcon Dash. Just trim a little off the side off the tabs and twist them in!!!!

Cheap and easy, can even get new globes!!!!

Getting the dash apart is another story tho.....

Any q's just email me and I can answer them (I am a mechanic!)

[ryan] - yeah they use proper 12v mini light globes :P

I had the same problem with mine when I got it. I found out that Dick Smith (or was that Jaycar??) sell them for about $1.20 each.

Perfect size and all :uh-huh:

One thing I couldn't find was the little blue sleeves that go over the bulbs to make them glow blue.

But a bit of lateral thinking and I used some of my girlfriends blue nail polish and gave the bulbs a quick coat

Worked a treat.

I dunno about you R33 owners, but the screen on the R32 climate control units is useless. Mine has gibberish on it most of the time. Mate has tried 4 different units in his car, all the same, i think they had a manufacturing problem with the screens (dry joints etc..)

Mine will work properly about 3 times out of 100 when driving the car. All the buttons work and everything operates, its just the screen doesnt display properly. Anyone found a solution to this?

I'm having trouble with mine also. It fluctuates in brightness all the time. Sometimes I can't read it at all. Other times only some segments of the display light up. I'm going to fit a new CD player soon so while I have the centre console apart I might see if i can find a fix for it.

yeh mine are screwed, the right 3 buttons of the bottom set (temp up temp down etc), when i used to knock it, sometimes they would flick on, now i dont really notice it, cant be stuffed fixing it really :) works fine just cant see what they are at night

b005t, mine does the exact same thing... only on the LHS... when it comes to driving at night, the process is turn on the lights, tap the LHS of the climate control 3 times, and hey presto the dash lights come on... i think it is a dry solder or something, but the climate control looks like a bitch to get into so i'm going to leave it ;)

yeah that would be bad contact on the back.

I was actuallly missing the holders aswell.

The climate control is easy to get out.

remove the ash tray 2 screws behind that

remove gear knob and 2 plugs from cigarette lighter and panel will un clip. (easier to get out when in second gear)

remove 2 screws from bottom of centre dash panel

remove screws from steering column cover (where the key goes in)

lower seering wheel and remove cover

centre dash panel will unclip be careful not to pull too hard.

remove plugs from rear demister, hazard and clock

remove plug and hose from small vent thingy (under guages on dash)

remove plug from elect mirror control

Manouvre dash peice out of the way.

remove 2 screws on either side of climate control panel

slip out and remove 2 plugs from back

and its out

the easiest way to remove the lights and holders is by screwdriver, pushing on one of the cut-outs then turn the control panel upside down and shake them out.

    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
