well the title says it all. i want to study up on my japanese. I am sick of being another dumb ass round eye when i am in japan. and since fixing the round eye bit by elongating my eyes with surgery may be a little painful, i am going to polish up my (limited) japanese skills to help with the dumb ass bit.

I learnt japanese for a few years in high school, but i'm happy to start from scratch.

I'm mainly interested in courses either in the city, or inner west, or northshore (not much more north than chatswood though). Night courses would be preffered.

If you have studied at one of these places please post up their details and your experience, or even if you just know of a place please let me know.

Arigato gozaimas.

Hey I joined up a japanese class at TAFE with a mate coz we found its pretty cheap ($190 per semester). I think the whole course has like 3 semester and I started from scratch eventhough like you I've done one for 2 years back in high school. Alternatively you can do an intensive course like my mate which goes for something like 3 weeks at $300 but that is very exhausting since classes are every weeknights.

My first class is tonight to I can let you know how it goes. Havent been to classes for ages since finishing uni so this could be interesting, making new "friends" hehe

that sounds good. i'm not too fussed on price. I just want high kwarity. even the three week every night option could be good. any more info on that class? location etc?

thanks.

Aishite-mo ii?

May I love you?

Kirei-na karada-dane.

You have a beautiful body.

Piru nonderu?

Are you on the Pill?

Sugoku yokatta.

That was wonderful.

Zannen-dakedo bokutachi awanakattan-dayo.

I'm sorry it didn't work out.

Jama shinai-deyo!

Stop bothering me!

Mo suki janai-kara, denwa bango kaeru.

I really don't love you anymore, so I'm going to change my phone number.

all the japanese you'll ever need to know to succeed as an english teacher in japan.

Alright, here is my feed back for that TAFE japanese class: boring . . .

Not saying Im good enough for the intermediate level yet but I dont want to go through the whole alphabet thingi all over again. So I asked the teacher and she said I could get refunded and transfered to the intermediate level in Ultimo campus. So I might try that sometimes tomorrow.

Beer Baron, I asked my mate about the intensive course that he did but unfortunately it was only offered during summer (January) which you have just missed it by few weeks. It was at UNWS by the way, you can check out few information about current semester here However there should be a few private intensive courses offered outside but I havent got a chance to find out.

Do you volunteer to help translate manuals to the best of your ability once you've completed the course? hahaha

I was thinking about doing a short course in Japanese too, it can't hurt.

I remember seeing them listed in the Community College booklets, and I've got a TAFE one here with me for Western Sydney. Certificate I is in Blacktown, and Certificates II and III are in Baulkham Hills, which are all probably too far from you.

Certificate I (1 year p/time) and II (18 weeks p/time) are $185 per semester (or $370 full fee), and Certificate III is $290 (18 weeks p/time).

thanks lads, that is helpful. Now, i'm keen to hear from anyone who has experience with, or knows of private schools? or anything located between the city and chatswood, or between the city and stanmore.

yeah, i'm serious. mate, when i find a suitable class i will let you know.

and fatz, if i stick with your plan of jap girl speaking dirty to me, all i will ever know how to say is: "OMG it's so big", and "you are the man" and so forth and so on.

Rich,

I did Beginners, Level 1 and Level 2 at USYD Continuing Education.

http://www-secure.cce.usyd.edu.au/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CCE.woa

The classes were very good, but above Level 2, people entered with prior speaking experience and the class ability started to vary immensely, which meant that the class either went way too slowly if you got a particular lesson, or way too quickly if you didn't understand...

So I suggest that once you feel that you're not getting the most out of the classes, to go find a personal 1-on-1 tutor if you want to progress even further.
