Just wanting to figure out what turbo option would be the best in terms of price, response, and overall power band.

I was originally thinking a gt30r with high-mount manifold and tIAL gate' on about 17psi should hit the mark - not too sure tho.

I was having a look on the sticky thread about the rb25 turbo upgrade, and im wanting to find out more about the hks 2835 pro s... i tried searching the forum and the net and couldnt find any rock solid specs or real-world figures.

I'm just leaning towards the internally gated turbo now because its cheaper to bung one on. But would one of these fit low-mounted in a 180sx? And also, what other mods besides the obvious ones are needed for this power. I dont really want to have to do cams unless i really need to..

Id prefer an aftermarket one. And from what i've seen from that sticky thread on here, you SAU boys are making like 240kw or less from a high-flowed turbo.

As i said previously I have a s2 r33 gts-t engine in my 180sx - and im aiming for 270kw at the wheels on a stock engine.

Does the 2835pro s have boost control problems by being internally gated, or am i better off with a straight garrett gt30r :P

it has similar response if not very close, the exhaust housing is the same size a/r but the snout is made larger so there's not like an larger a/r housing is thrown on, just a bored out larger hole in the standard one. drivability should be awesome, comes on quick and has plently of top end

Did you see a GCG Hi-flow break?

Turbos break for any number of reasons. A "new" turbo is just as likely, and a hi-flow is as much a new turbo as anything with a "hks" label on it.

There are R33 GTS-t's making 250-260rwkw with a GCG hi-flow's.

Is everyone using a GCG Hi-flow in the Dyno sticky? (no they are not)

If you dont think im right, then search these forums yourself and see.

Otherwise, by all means use a expensive 2835 and see the same result with more expenditure

Im not trying to waste my time or money, but i'd rather not have to send turbo's back and forth to GCG headquarters. It would most likely be more convenient for me to buy a new or used turbo locally..

gt 30 r lowmounted with external gate in kit form can be purchased and installed for about $6000 that can give about 275rwkw on std engine with ok response on a 0.64 housing..

all you need is engine management then..

one GCG - 250rwkw @ 15psi

another 264rwkw @ i think 16psi/17psi

But IMO the GCG is right into the market if your MAX aim is 270rwkw. 2835's i think push more, but why get something bigger than the application?

They've finally got into a good combo thats a direct change over, and probably takes less time to arrive than a new turbo from Japan

But enough outta me. You do what you want.

IHI/Apexi AX6 turbo and ext gate....definately good for that on 1.0bar of boost.....ur internals mite not make it through tho

im currently running 294rwkw on std internals, just using a cometic metal head gasket..

the gt30r example above - 2 people running it - are both on std engines with std gaskets..

so he should be fine as long as the tune is not lean

the gcg one on that website says $1950?

is this the correct one?

thats only 200 bucks cheaper than a hks one, and more expensive than a trust td06-20g or a garrett gt30r...

Plus if this was correct i wouldnt get any money back from sale of the stock turbo, to the upgrade one - making it more expensive

Your saying your car is stock you will need a full 3" exhaust from turbo back. Intercooler hybrid would be fine look in group buy section they have cheep kits. As for the turbo I agree with the others HI-flo is probably your best bet bolts staight back in place no mucking arround with oil/water lines. But I think this kit from www.nengun.com is good value too.

from what I have learnt on these forums I estimate

GTR-S turbo should make 260-270, 270-290 with cams

GCG highflow should make 240-250, 260-270 with cams

Tuna144 is on the ball.. i don't see the obsession with the GCG turbos for price/performance when they are nearly $2k.. when several full kits are available with all that is required for possibly only a few hundred more all said and done.

your only real advantage to a highflow RB25 option is the stealth aspect in the nazi states..

Im going to go hiflow myself, but probably via ATS (Adelaide Turbo Services) in liue of GCG. ATS hiflows are suppossidly built with GT30 internal's, fully balanced etc.....

So, Id gather good for a little bit more HP than a GCG, not much but it might help in your case. Slightly more than $2k.

i'd be goin a GTRS those things are awesome.. boosts early and has decent topend.. and capability of pushing close to 300rwkw if not a little bit over on a rebuilt engine with all the work.. on a stock engine i'd say you'd be able to get 260-270rwkw safely and rather easily

Yeah Ive been watching that deal at Nengun for ages, I think thats the way to go if you dont want to go down the GCG path. GTRS turbo kit, PFC and controller and 6 injectors for under 5k delivered is pretty cheap. :O

Saying that there is no real cheap way to get that power target because as soon as you start changing the turbo and boost settings away from the factory settings expect to pay more money for support systems, tuning and maintenance etc. Plus whats cheap for someone is expensive to someone else.
