Finally after a day searching here I found what I was looking for. The guttered cat question. I have the factory exhaust on my GTSt and it has enough Kms on it to safely say the cat doesn't do anything usefull anymore. It's high time I replaced the lot with something more 3" ish. I am travelling OS soon so won't be shelling out money yet. Was keen on bashing out the guts of the cat in the meantime for some more hp and better milage. Not too concerned about RTA/EPA/COPS (Although the TRA did pay a "routine" visit a little while ago..), my car doesn't draw attention like some others. $10k is worst case senario and they really have it in for you. I know someone at the EPA and they like targeting repeat offenders more. My question is: are they easy to bash the guts out of? Much steel and other bits that will make this operation a problem?

must be lucky with mine, i have a hi flow cat which is gutted and no resonator or anythin, only have a straight thru rear muffler, cars well tuned and i dont get much smoke if any ahtough i get flames at hi rpm back offs and shifting up, pretty nice, felt a bit more free once the cat was gutted cant remember exactly thought the full gain, roughly 10rwhp i think maybe bit more, it went from 472rwhp to 485rwhp. and from under neath just looks like a normal cat

ben...

Guys that whole not having a cat = $10,000 fine is a load of crap.

When i bought my 32 and didn't know too much i got defected and had to take it to Regency.......

So the car is on the hoist and the inspector goes "see that"?

i say "see what"?

"exactly" he replies "there should be a cat there"

Just said i will need one to pass, and that was it, nothing else was said!

No mention of a fine no nothing.

PS. I love having no cat!

Agreed. I think you might be the best case scenario, differnt states differ of course but still good news.

I will speak to my EPA friend in NSW and give you guys "from the horses mouth" facts on what usually happens in this regard.

As for my cat, I'll take to it with a hammer and pipe in the meantime until I replace the whole exhaust system. I will get a high flow cat no doubt, I beleive they work well. Not sure on dump/cat/muff combo yet, have to surf around and get some advice of you guys. Mild steel likely, I don't think I'll have it long enough to warrant SSteel.

when i bought my car it didnt have a cat. not a cat with a pipe thru it, just a pipe. i havent bothered changing it, if a cop says wheres the cat, i'll just say what's a cat. Surely they can't give me a fine if i bought it like that and say i don't know what one is??? can they??

speaking of punchin cats.. i planned to do mine tomorrow. 90kms on a GTR runnign rich just clogs it up.. turbo cars will clog cats up in a matter of years.. if u can afford a cat buy it.. the straight out emissions produced by an engine is extremly harmful..

hehe ..

Cop: defect time.. ok son whats that hanging off the block?

" i dnt knw wat it is ?"

Cop: looks like a T4 T70 and external wastegate?

"what u talkin bout thats standard.." ;)

CAT CONVERTERS SAVE LIVES.. :D

haha likewise with me,

still hasnt had a cat on it. but there are like 3 massive mufflers under there so it isnt really a loud car to begin with so i doubt the exhaust will ever be checked.

p.s. loves having a high flow veilside exhaust.

Why no cat anyway??

what sort of mods/horsepower you got

Mine went 354awkw with cat (3.5in metal cat)and 361awkw without cat

So for 7kw (in a 350awkw car) who cares just put it in

tho also going to get west side put one of them 3.5 inch metal cats on.. just incase.. then for the track its nothing but a small sidepipe for maxium noise and flow

We considering a cat should be replaced every 40,000Km (don't quote me) do a quick calc on how many cars are running with cats that don't work? Let just say a few. How about bikes? Not too many cats on them nowdays, I can tell you mine doesn't have one nor does it require one. Not to mention leaded cars running PULP and fuel additives...hmmm can you smell the roses? I don't feel bad about it, I drive the car twice a week.

I will get a high flow cat anyway guys, no need to talk me into it. I'll try find a good value split dump pipe, high flow cat and a reasonable sized muffler (no cannons please) with some 3" to join the dots. Local exhaust place quoted me $1000 for his half baked system - no thanks. Any recommended exhaust place who will listen to what I want and not rip me? Someone said Liverpool Exhaust (NSW)... hard to tell if you guys recommend people/shops or put in a good word for your cousin's business...

News on the $10,000 question on the way.

    • Yeah agreed, you can't assume that shop are they only people who ever had to work on it. It was just a guess on the mods based on how things were done back then. You can check the Air Flow Meters by the part number on their tags, they are likely either Z32 or Nismo ones (both read about the same but the Z32 one is a little larger while nismo is stock size but supports the higher airflow like a Z32). And yes, all that would get you to 450hp / 340kw To tell what is happening with the turbos, you want a photo of the tag on the core, that will say what it was made out of  (they can retain the front and rear covers to make the plumbing easier)
    • I'm selling my personal race car. 1992 BNR32 Skyline GT-R About eight years ago the engine developed the dreaded low oil pressure problem. I removed it and found the issue. However shortly after I moved half way across the country, moved my work shop, bought a house, got married, then moved my shop again to it's permanent location for the time being. in turn I do not have the time to race this car as it should be. In turn the engine I built for this car will end up in my street car and this car I hope finds a home with someone who can use it to it's full potential. The roll bar was built by Jason Noren Fabricaiton in Pomona California to SCCA and NASA Specs. The car used to compete in redline time attack and global time attack enthusiast class. It also has a fire suppression system.  The car is with me at my workshop in Kyle Texas, USA. Shipping it is no problem, I can personally deliver the car to the port of either Houston or Los Angeles. Any other port depending on where it is may require transport but we can always work that out.   The chassis itself is rust free, rear quarters and under fenders are free of any rust so it's a very solid foundation for anyone who wishes to move forward with it. As posted and at the asking price of $20,000 USD the car includes all of the following;   All OEM Body panels, front fenders, rear bumpers etc.  OEM Nissan Projector headlamps (Pictured N1 lamps were removed) OEM Nismo Side Skirts / Extensions OEM Rear Spats  Front & Rear Subframes are installed car is full roller Rear Subframe has Cusco Camber Arms, Whiteline HICAS Elimination Front Subframe has Whiteline tension rods and whiteline Sway bars w/ endlinks.  Buddy Club N1 Coilovers All chassis wiring and engine wiring is in tact. Attessa System is fully in tact and was functional before engine removal.  BCNR33 GT-R Brembo Brakes F+R with Endless MX72 Plus Pads, DBA Rotors & Stainless Steel Brake lines Billion Racing Radiator Billion Radiator Hoses Fluidyne Engine Oil Cooler Accusump System (trunk Mounted) 5 Speed Transmission w/ Transfer Case F+R Prop-shafts Rear Differential With rear Axles.  Nismo Gauge Cluster Nismo Clutch + Flywheel   Essentially what is needed to make this car running and driving again is as follows: A working Engine, an ECU, and time to put it together. The price posted is or best offer as I am willing to remove some components to accommodate price to a certain extent. If any serious buyer wants full detailed pictures, videos, or any questions I'll be happy to answer them. I believe this car is priced to move quickly considering it's a rust free and very straight chassis but always open to fair negotiation.  I can be contacted via phone or email. • So...to my (and my mechanics doing the swap) surprise...the oil pan from NEO engine does not fit 100% and needs to by modified like this: It is not a huge problem but in the future i want a "proper" oil pan. So question is...what different oil pan can i get to fit without any problems and modification? Thanks!
    • Some more info I found.  These are the last entries Yoshikiyo Fujii made on his blog before he passed away in 2009: http://blog.livedoor.jp/fujii_dynamics/ And finally this is where the workshop was situated:  https://maps.app.goo.gl/HhTPtHzt3WVcBTiEA
