Guys,

Just been asked if my OS Giken 5 Speed has the stronger sandwhich plate, never heard of them what are they, what do they do and where can i get one from?

NissanFreak

Sandwich plate is the thick plate between the front and rear of the gearbox. Sandwich plate flex has been blamed in the past for gearbox failure...but my personal opinion is its only another bit they want you to spend $$ on. I have an OS giken transmission and seems up to the task without the sandwich plate upgrade (which i believe is no longer available.

Sandwich plate is a mechanic term for the bearing support plate of which both the front and rear gbox housings bolt to, in the centre on the gbox.in terms of strngth, thickness of the plate and the material it is made from is probably what the person is asking.some alloy casing gbox's have an alloy sandwich plate whilest others such as a supra 5 speed have a steel plate. Steel is better because it is stiffer and has better bearing support however it is heavier.Hope this helps. I have alot of experience with holinger gbox's thru the line of work im in, they are alloy but over an inch thick !

Thanks Guys.

Well the casing that I used was from a R33 GTR and the transfer case was from my R32 GTR. I am using a RB26/30 engine which I hope will make 450-500 at all four so do you guys think that I need the plate?
