just wanted to get so thoughts on air filters, I have a gtr and I am thinking about changing to a k&n pannel or pod filters, but want to know if there is any point to change to pods instead of just a k&n panel?

in victoria pod filters are legal.

pods make a cool sucking sound(if u like that kinda stuff) but most of them have very coarse elements and let to much dust in if u ask me.

do u want to wear ur engine for the sake of 2hp?

go the k&n panel filter.

The Mines machine runs airbox.

Surely no one can argue with that.

I love that! So true!

I'm about to upgrade alot of components in the engine and i think i may be switching back to stock air box!

Have a look at the ARC Super Induction Box. Draws air like a pod but should avoid being defected due to its design. I run one in my GTR. It actually has two intake panels - on top and on the side. All alloy construction with replaceable filters. Worth a look :)

The ARC box does look cool and efficient however its also around $500 which is abit rich if you ask me.

I'm still not sure if I should convert back to the std airbox or get a custom made enclosure.

Does anyone happen to have a pic of a std R32 GTR airbox?

I went from pods (heat sheilded), back to the factory airbox with K&N panel. The air pick up at the front bar means 'rammed' air at speed keeps the box closer to a positive air pressure which reduces the resistance to flow.

The factory airbox's chamber volume could be improved however for higher horsepower.

The ARC airbox ; where does the air get draw in from as it looks to me like it might still suck in hot engine bay air?

I have decided to keep the standard air box and put a k&n filter in.

I had the box out the other day and discovered there is two inlets, one on top and one on the side.

The one on the side is blocked of from the factory but the bung can be removed easy( this one draws cold air from inside the fender) this also helps with the induction noise and you can hear the standard blow off valves.

I bought both a standard box with a nismo filter (thanks tosh) and an arc box, settled for arc box, so after having each of the 3 options i chose arc box

Benm : at the next cruise you can inspect one if you want, its currently in my mates silver r32

Air filter is a seriously small horsepower improvement. The fact that you gain anything on a dyno is soemtimes negated when you dyno/test with the bonnet 'down' as you always ought to. The airflow characteristics at speed are often quite different to the dyno booth.

If you have an NA car do you get induction noise if you have a podfilter? I was thinking about putting one in with a heat shield but dont want any annoying noise.

You do as i have a pod on my N/A but it runs through the intercooler holes in the car out to the front just behind the front bumper. Dont know if that makes a differences.

    • If you are fine with China turbos, Maxpeedingrods makes a bolt on turbo. Ive had mine for two summers now and it seems to be holding up ok.
    • Howdy all Im in a little predicament and wondering what everyone’s thoughts are? I’ve had my long block rebuilt and am in the market for a turbo due to my old one having metal shavings from crank bearings (cause of rebuild) go throughout the turbos oil lines and there wheel has a little play. I’m not really aiming for any power, just trying to keep it as oem as possible, but I can’t find a turbo that’s built for the stock ecu or find something that would be a standard replacement. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions
    • How's everyone going? Just a shout-out introducing myself. I'm James, I live on the north side of Brisbane. I bought an R33 that had been left to rot in someone's front yard for 14 years. Apparently, it has immobiliser/fuel issues. Long story short, it's suffering from a seized engine, plus whatever else turns up once it runs. The car is pretty good considering it sat for so long. It pretty much died after being imported. It has a bunch of Jap parts and a full Top Secret body kit. It's painted Fiat Turchese Festival, or aqua blue if you're not French. Another project to throw money at!
    • So the clockspring is responsible for the indicators cancelling on their own? I thought that was the function of that white thing in the center (any idea what it's called?)
    • Can you log IAT? Whilst WTA coolers have their place, doing any sort of sustained run is not one of them There are fixes that slow down the heat soak, like ice boxes, which don't last that long, and interchillers, which are fairly expensive, up grades to the WTA cooling radiator, which may require a bigger pump, and upgrades to the reservoir size,  and upgrades to the cooling fans, but, it all still heat soaks, and takes ages to come down in hot weather  For a turbo, that isn't locked into WTA like my PD blower is, can you not possibly swap to a nice air to air intercooler????, it would be better for sustained runs then, and have alot less things that could go wrong in my opinion
