Oil Inside Air Filter

i decided to dust out my air filter and found the inside of the air filter covered in oil

does anyone know what this means?? thanks for any help

a crap load of blowby.. caused by old piston rings letting oil to slip through the cylinders

do you get irregular idle or things such as that? Running a bit of boost?

Before getting too concerned, are you sure it's not an oiled-foam filter ?? Standard filters a paper, but some replacements are oiled foam (eg early ARC filters).

Anyway I suggest you replace the filter with a new one, clean the airbox thoroughly of any oil, then run the car for a week or so and re-check for oil contamination. If there is it's time to start tracing the source.

yea i sometimes get funny idle and occasionally white smoke on standing, how serious is blow by?? should i get this fixed asap?? and yeah i changed the filter and will see what happens.

yea looked at the new filter n the insides covered with oil again, does anyone know how serious this is?? should i get it check up by a mechanic?? STRESSIN NOW NEED HELP!!

what would be a safer and cheaper option, a rebuild of my existing 140km engine or some 2nd wreckers one??
