Just wondering what others think. Personally i dont think the R33 and R34 GTR have earnt the reputation or name that the original did by winning Bathurst and earning the nickname Godzilla.

I just find it odd when you either see a car add, or ask someone what car they drive, and they say a Godzilla mate, and you say, what a R32, and they go nah, a R33 GTR mate... They never seem to like it when i point out that really only the the R32 GTR is known as a Godzilla.

Anyway, just bored....

what about the godzille remake and not the dude dressed in the godzilla suit... nah just messin.

dunno really... i reakon they can because its an upgraded model then the r32 gtr... everything has been updated etc

I dunno if it was called Godzilla because of its efforts at Bathurst.

Wheels Magazine coined the phrase when they put the Australian-delivered R32 on the cover in 1989, but the GT-Rs didn't win the Bathurst 1000 until 1990/91.

Still, its nice to know that Australia has contributed to the GT-R legend in more than one way. Aside from the fact that every Jap import enthusiast on the planet knows, and tells the story, of how we kicked it out of competition because it was too fast even with a weight and boost penalty.....one of our local mags coined the nickname that everyone refers to the vehicle by.

r32's are godzilla's..... Australian media dubbed them that during their raine in our racing history relating to its eaten everything and the name stuck... So its not A nissan thing !

R32s were released to win on the race track as fas a i know and the rest were a release for the pubic with extra fancies!

i have no problem if the r33,s r34 or even the 35 want to ride coat tales of an aussie tag.... but R33's were never raced in Aus so i dont see how they could be...

As far as i know the japanese did call them godzilla. The name came from the unpredicable nature of the ATTESSA system. Eg. When you push them hard through corners they can bite back if you are not careful and spin out.

um.... no

My opinion is that only the Australian delivered R32 GTR's should be given the title Godzilla. AFAIK it was a title given to the race cars that Gibson Motorsports ran in the Australian Touring Car Series. Hence TECHNICALLY (and again IN MY OPINION) ONLY the Aussie R32 GTR is deserving of such a title.

Well from my understanding the title of Godzilla is given to the RB26dett motor, not the car it's self.

With a motor that will take just about anything your through at, on stock internals, certainly deserves the name. I still have a magazine where Top Secret built an 841whp RB26, that's a daily driver, and it was de-tuned! The internals where stock as well so, other then the mkIV Supra 2JZ, there's nothing else out there that can really boast that.

So wether it's an R32, 33 or 34 GTR you have Godzilla under the hood.

Anyway, that's my thinking.

Have a good one.

Cheers B)

I think its only for the R32 GTRs, it was an australian coined phrase so I say only for the 32's.

So because it can handle so much power on stock internals should we call the 2jz the same then? Its nothing to do with the motor. And i would love to see the article on the Rb26 been on stock internals making 841rwhp detuned, that I find hard to believe. Yes its a good motor but its not that good. Even if it was making that much power I doubt it would last long.

^^^^

Yeah man it was in the article. I'll dig up the magazine after I find which box I packed it in after my famil and I move in to our new house. I can't remember what the name of the magazine was but if it comes to me, I'll let you know and maybe you can check it out for yourself. This was back maybe 3 years ish ago.

I'm not trying to start anything here man, just telling what my understanding to the name has been. Well all call the RB26 Godzilla here in Canada. As for the article, it's just what I've read that's all. :P

Cheers mate. B)

Personally it's offensive to refer to R33 and R34 as Godzilla, as they are superior vehicles that have also handed ass in Japanese and European racing......sounds like someone has inferiority complexes.........now where's that trolling smiley :P

Each sets benchmarks from the previous on the racetrack and shares the same running gear, they just improve as they go because much though we might not like it, they aren't perfect yet. Still for a cool daily driver there's nothing like a (any model) GTR.
