i'm doing 150 rwkw

with just Fmic n 12 psi

stock exhaust

How are you getting that much just with front mount? Are you using a boost controller to get the extra boost? I don't understand how just fitting an intercooler would allow that much extra boost.

What rwkrw does a stock r32 put out?

So,

ONLY with Front Mount Intercooler, Pod Filter, and Boost Controller (boost up to 12psi), I should hit 150rwkw.

I should be able to secure all of that for around $1200. Maybe I could do all of that as a first stage, and run 10psi initially.

Then later on I can get the fuel pump and pressure regulator, front pipe and dump pipe, high flow cat and fuel computer. That should safely allow for 12psi on the stock RB20 turbo.

That'll also help break up the cost, and that way I'll also be able to notice the gradual improvement.

Sounding better by the minute.

My 2c. If you have a good flowing front mount inercooler adn a good turbo back exhaust, then the std RB20 turbo is good for 14psi. I ran that for a good few years with the occasional 15psi. 20 min sessions at laces like Eastern Creek where the little RB20 spends lenty of time at wide open throttle and the turbo never failed...and i stil ran the std dump pipe and cat. They are not as fragile as the R33/34 turbos.

Also, dont obsess over dyno figures too much. As we are not talking huge numbers, someone who claims an extra 10-15% power can quite easily have the same power as you , only difference being the dyno their car was run on.

all you need is a

Hybrid copy fmic $460 delievered

cheap pod $50

bleed vale $40

150 rwkw right there

find your self a second hand full exhaust $300 if you lucky

160rwkw

r33 turbo $300

Gtr Fuel Pump $100

170 rwkw

Then get it chipped for around $400-500

180-190 rwkw if your lucky

no point buying expensive branded stuff, its all the same

might be a few kw's different if you buy good shit

Then get it chipped for around $400-500

180-190 rwkw if your lucky

very lucky the rb20 turbo runs out of puff at around the 170-180 yeah??

get a batmbl front and dump pipe and maybe one of his 3" ceramic cats too if you want to splurge! :D

I like the recipe!

Where can I get a FMIC for $460 delivered? That's tempting as all hell. I reckon the air filter insert should be enough for now, no need to go pod filter.

As for bleed valve, I'd rather save up the extra and get a proper electronic boost controller. Would probably go the fuel pump at the same time, I don't wanna lean out.

So I'm probably looking at 160rwkw at around 12psi, which is still happy times!

Nothing wrong with that shopping list , and will give the results...and it depends on what you r long term plans are for the car...but id be inclined to spend a bit more on the gear you are isntalling. Bosch fuel pump instead of GTR. Price difference between a good filter and cheapie is 100%, but $150 is not a lot of money. Ane deal with the exhaust and intercooler etc. spend that little bit and get good gear.

I know if i was lookign at buying a car 2nd hand i wold shy away form one that has all nargain basement gear on it, as it would make me wonder what else have they tried to do o the cheap.

So agian , nothing wrong with that list or trying to get things done cheaply...but, just an opinion :D

You think there is anything wrong with the Hybrid intercooler copy kits floating around for about $450ish atm Roy??? Otherwise what would you recommend...

Ive seen 170rwkw on a stock rb20 turbo a few times so shouldn't be too much hassel but dont expect much more outta it regardless of how much boost you decide to push through it lol :D

I doubt there is anythig wrong with them...there is plenty of cars making plenty of power with them.

...all im trying to say is ...well at the moment i have been hunting around for an R32 GTST with some nice mods, and every car i see has a Hybrid fmic, a GFB boost controller etc. Sure this gear works well, but none of it has bling...and i just tend to think if I see a car with name bits you tend to think the owner has perhaps taken a few extra steps/care with the car... :D

Again im not trying to upset anyone, im having a bit of a look around for someone looking for an R32 and im surprised by the fact that i have instinctively turned into a tall poppy yuppise nazi with part names :( Im not sur ehow many others out there do the same when shopping for cars/parts :D

LOL like im not saying that the cars are better or getter better results...truth is it probably means the car has simply had money wasted on it, i suppose this is the first time i have been concious of it as im looking around at the moment.

I suppose it will only matter when trying to sell the car. Would you rather see Autobarn cheap air air filter or Trust Airnx filter (not that much more espensive) and you woud expect it woudl be better quality.

If you saw a car with a Hybrid cooler, or a car with a HKS or ARC or Trust etc, then likewise, you see the extra $$$ the owner has spent on the car, you get a feel that the car has had more love. Ditto the exhaust X-Force vs the bigger Jap brands.

It doesnt really make it any better, but its something i have been made aware of the past few days as i have been looking...its your car do with it as you please, odds are you will get the same results...but im just saying its not always more expensive to get the better gear...things like air filters....lol im running around in circles saying the same thing :P

Right, so here's how it's looking:

STAGE ONE

Front Pipe, High Flow Cat and Catback Exhaust with Air Filter Insert @ 7psi.

STAGE TWO

Fuel Pump and Pressure Regulator with Turbotech Boost Controller @ 9psi.

STAGE THREE

Front Mount Intercooler and ECU dyno tuning @ 12psi.

I should be able to sort that out soon enough, but have to get my 32 serviced and make sure it's running right first (especially with regard to running lean). If anyone can recommend a good garage in Mildura (Vic) for tuning and servicing my 32, would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Adrian.

From first hand experience I just reached 150rwkw after ECU re-map with Hybrid FMIC, Pod, GFB plumb-back, turbo-back 3inch exhaust (including new dump pipe) and Walbro fuel pump. Was running 12psi. I reckon a high flow RB25 turbo or similar + injectors & upgraded ECU or SAFC would see 170-200rwkw + easily. From previous posts maybe I need a better tune (or higher reading dyno :D).

Considering 160fwkw is stock power, I am unsure if you are going to make another 30-40fwkw with just a cooler + boost.

Your list above looks fine- good luck with it.

Hey Roy, Its tim here....yup still looking!

170kw! why stop there! there is that elusive 200rwkw mark that most people aim for!

Buy your mods to be able to extract more power later on, i would rather have a turbo running at 11-12psi that running a smaller turbo at 14-15psi that is about to run out of puff! Think about money wise, spend now save later! Instead of paying cheap now, and then having to save for an upgrade AGAIN because first time was not enough..

I would also buy parts that are second hand, but if you were to buy a second hand copy, to me its kinda third hand. You really have to think about re-sale value, compare your car to other cars on this site and make it different! Something that will impress others not by your fully sick driving, but your maturity in your modifications! Warranty's etc etc

Just so you know.... With a good exhaust, air filter and intercooler you will be running 11-12psi without a boost controller.

When you fee up the engines breathing you will find that boost increaes. So save the cost of purchasing a boost controller.

Secondly with a good fuel pump (i would only ever use a Bosch) , then you can easily get enough from the injectors that you dont need a fuel pressure regulator, so again your saving money on something you dont need

...lol Hi Tim, dont worry, im looking :D

Sounds good. I'll have to make a fuel pump and front mount my next two purchases then. I'll let you know how much boost it runs when it's all installed.

Who would I go to, to get fuel pump installed and car running properly with the whole set-up? Or do you just plug it in and it works?

There has been a few threads on how to isntall a Bosch fuel pump yourself. Its not hard, and there is enough info on the forum to do it yourself.

That said, its just as easy to go to a mechanic and pay for 2 hours labout to install it. You can buy a Bosch 040 for $300 (less if you shop around) and the install should not take a mechanic more then 2 hours. Its a very easy job, but to remove the rear boot lining, remove, tweak and replace, then tidy up the boot lining etc...it will take 2 hours.

My RB20 is putting out 165 rwkw

All i have done is:

-fuel pump (still stock pressure)

-3 inch exhaust

-FMIC

-ECU

still no boost controller and running on BP ulitmate

Which ECU are you using? I've got a fuel pump and front mount intercooler in mind, it's just a matter of arranging an ECU. I've heard mixed things about Dr Drift.

Thanks,

Adrian.

If thats all you are after and you want THE best boost response with the fattest mid range and best reliability this is what I would do...

3" Front Pipe and Dump Pipe ('Flying Performance' type 2-in-1 job).

Catco 3" super high flow jobbie

3" Catback Exhaust with Turbo Muffler

R32 Turbo, steel exh. wheel (better still wait until it pops then do the steel exh. wheel, mine never went)

Electronic Boost Controller (PFC Boost kit OR a 'smart' boost curve learning type ebc, NOT a fix duty cycle based 'dumb' ebc)

PowerFC or ECU Remap.

Bosch040 fuel pump & adj. fuel reg

Nice CAI in to the stock airbox, Cut hole in the inner guard, feed pvc pipe in to airbox.

Cheap Hybrid FMIC kit.

Wind the boost up using the 'smart' ebc that will aid in holding boost, the regular 'dumb' ebc's may drop boost. Its not worth the risk when the pfc boost kit is so cheap. OR look at an AVCR or Blitz SBC-iD as they are both 'smart' ebc's.

This will provide you with a nice quick streeter, the larger the turbo you go the lesser the mid range hit will be, it will feel all top endish. RB25 turbo is a nice setup for ~190rwkw BUT over the stock rb20det turbo running 1bar it does spool ~500-600rpm later than the rb20det turbo under normal driving circumstances.

Take dyno figures with a pinch of salt... Mine making ~160rwkw was running to 100km/h in an easy 5.2secs, consistently. Untuned ecu, 1bar of boost, 3" turbo back exhaust, bar/plate fmic. Had it have been tuned I may have seen another 10-15rwkw.
