I've already made sweet love to the search button OK!

On the way home this evening my car's steering seemed to get a reasonable amount lighter than per usual (Series II R33). I wiggled the steering wheel back and forth for a while and changed speeds (ranging from 40-110) still doing my little back and forth left right wiggle. It felt much lighter across the range of speeds completely whereas it used to feel like it was quite heavy over 100 (which felt nice).

No HICAS light has come on (other than with the rest of the lights during the ignition sequence) and a quick look under the rear doesn't yield any clues (nothing leaking nothing obviously busted etc).

Just wondering if anyone else has experience this before.

I'm wondering if something is busted or if HICAS has just started working or what, or if I'm being overly sensitive. I'll of course monitor it over the next few days and see how it feels but just wondered if anyone has experienced this before.

It doesn't help that I've got a set of 18's with much wider rubber on the way either they will stay off until I'm comfortable that all is well.

Side note, 265's should fit on the rear right?

Cheers

P.S. Is there some form of HICAS diagnostic I can do without Consult?

I beleive HICAS only operates over 70km/hr, so if it's lighter under that, then I doubt HICAS started working. It's prolly working fine in your car.

On top of that, R33's have electric rear steering instead of the 32's hydrolic setup, so you shouldn't feel any different if it STOPPED working.

I'd normally guess that you just inflated your tyres, or it was a really hot day and the air in the tyres expanded, but i'm sure you've thought of that! =-]

Randy (we meet again, you are always full of useful info for me :P )

The drive to work this morning felt fine, gave it a bit of a push around some corners at mid to higher speeds and felt some stuff going on back there.

I'm confident that you're right and that it's nothing, still nice to have someone else confirm it for me =)

Cheers

Yeah would have to agree with Randy - tire pressure can make quite a difference in the steering feel..

although - I do believe HICAS also works at low speeds to assist in parking.. but than also higher speeds as noted..

it's always fun when the car chucks in a couple of extra degrees going around a corner lol..

Actually.. A picture I grabbed from another post on this forum shows that at low speeds HICAS does nothing at all... It's Honda's and so forth that use 4 wheel steer for parking duties (because the owners can't drive). Heck was surprised how easy it was to reverse park my 33 and that's with a GTR wing, some people just gotz no skillz.

Back to the HICAS.. I did recently check my pressures (as I do weekly) and they were fine...

*shrug* While it keeps driving straight and no HICAS light I guess it's OK =\

My HICAS is always on.. for some reason.. even when i start up the car..

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
