Hey pplz,

I got caught speeding the other night in my work truck by the speed camera on the m4 at the cumberland highway overpass, I knew the the camera was there and i looked at my speedo at the time and it read 95km,but flash flash got done, Fark! ;) Anyway waited for the fine to come through and my boss rings me saying   you got done and he'll transfer the ticket to me. I ask him how fast etc etc and he tells me you got done for 106km in a 90 zone. i responded with i honestly thought i was only doin 95km but hey if thats how fast i was goin then fark fark. Anyway last night i was comin home from work with a work mate in a car in front of me we were coming through the m5 tunnel and i overtook him i was sitting on 80km (speed limit) anyway got out of tunnel and then it dawned on me that maybe the speedo might be out so i rang him and asked him to keep up with me as i sat on 90km he said that his car was reading 102km! So tonight we thought maybe his car might be reading wrong so we did it with the other work truck and as all three vehicles were doin the same speed at 100km my truck read 90km.

I rang my boss and told him what was happening and he said he'll do whatever he can to fix the problem, but that ain't gonna save some of my points and the fine, so can anyone tell me what's my chance of getting this fine\ticket ripped up or changed?

Thats a bitch...

Might have to take it to court, but then they will blame the car/truck for not being in good shape but that should go back onto your boss...

You could probably get uot of it in court if you had someway to prove the truck is out, like putting it on a dyno?

Get your boss to have the speedo checked by an instrument place and get the report .

Elect to go to court and plead guilty with an explanation, produce the document from the instrument place to show the magistrate that the trucks speedo was out by 12 kmh ( if it was out by 16 kmh would be better ) and you have a very good chance of getting off .

Good luck !!

i didnt get caught, but my speedo was out in my old 32 gtst when i first got it. i realised this the second day i got the car so i was lucky :P

in my case, my speedo read 15k's over the actual speed of the car so i was lucky :0

so i'd be sitting at 80 on the speedo, but i'd actually be going 65 :(

there's a place in lidcombe called "General Instruments". they can fix the speedo up for you. should cost around $200 in total.

too prove in court that ur speedo was out, u could get them to do a test and give u the results.

yeh wrxhoon is on the money....

the maintenance on the truck is not your responsibility and if it was that far out of calibration then it's a defect and it's your bosses problem. you should get off the speeding fine if you've got a good record

    • Get something that can spray a bit, something like I'd use is a pressure pack for weed sprayer. I use one with degreaser. Spray it on (make sure you're fully covered up, you don't want that shit on you, especially face/eyes). Alternatively, a paint brush will help here as you can brush and work at the stuff quite aggressively.   Be aware, citric acid can eat metal away and will cause it to rust more later. So make sure you neutralise it when done, and give the fresh metal some protection. That hanger, I'd honestly bin and get something like the Frenchy's drop in replacement. The tank, again, I'd look for something else to replace it with. Remember, as metal turns to rust, it means there's less metal there now. So some patches of your fuel tank are likely to be quite thin.   Personally, Id focus on the front end of things, IE, how did the injectors get clogged if they're meant to be after a fuel filter. Then, once the front is sorted, I'd rig something up, even like a small surge tank, and make sure the engine is now running and all behaving. Then I'd replace the fuel tank and fuel hanger and pump. Also, I'd already be preparing to ditch your fuel filter...
    • That's looking great! Are you planning to do things like all hidden wiring with it, or you're planning to have it look more like we'd expect an RB in an engine bay to look like?
    • Haha thanks everyone, I'll take everyone's suggestions into consideration. If I do eventually choose a car ill post it here update on the mods I do.
    • I found the ingredients at larger amounts from a Coffee Shop. 1kg Citric Acid for €8.50 500g Baking Soda for €2.50 I tried it out tonight distilled water (I got from my ACs) and dish soap. It does get bubbly with dish soap. In just two hours the hanger has improved significantly and rubbing against any remaining rust seems to flake it off. I'm going to leave it a little bit longer and see how it goes. I have read that someone even used this solution in an ultrasonic cleaner to clean a seized water pump which brought it back to life.
