Just wondering if everyone else noticed a whistling sort of sound just after fitting a fmic to their r33 gtst? i hope its not jst me, theres no leaks to be found, and the cooler runs fine on boost? Im thinking its the sound of the air going through the fins from the cooler, but amplified cause its larger than stock???

I get that too, Is it a hybrid or hybrid copy??

I guess the hybrids didnt get the nickname "the Chineese whistler" for nothing, It is ghey and annoys me (Came with my new car) and I will be changing it to a better brand! The HKS cooler on my old car never made funy noises!

Gotta love induction noise?! OR is it? After fitting an aftermarket bov to my old WRX had a leaking seal... and it had a MASSIVE high pitched shreeeek to it... shit me off no end and so took it off and sealed her up... Otherwise... might just be induction noise?

Cheers

hahaha yip you got it genuine Hybrid gt spec....yeh not too annoying lol, no yet anyways

It is nothing to worry about, as long as you dont mind the soud it is fine! It is to do with the design of the core or the piping, Almost all of the older ones whistled though someone told me the newer ones didnt as much

Mine isnt induction noise mine souds like a tea kettle boiling when held at constant throttle at around 3000rpm

it's the pipe kit.

a lot of nissan silvia guys were getting this too.

one guy on there has a workshop where he does pipe work (exhaust, intake, intercooler etc) and none of the cars he's done with hybrid or hybrid copy cores, using his pipes have the wistle sound, but a lot of (not all) the hybrid type coolers that come as kits with piping, make the stupid whistle sound.

last 2 times we had whistling noises in our cars ones an r 32 gtst and the othe a s13 sr20det turned out to be exhaust probs. the rb20 was broken exhaust manifold studs. then sr20 was an buggered exhaust gasket between the turbo and the manifold. the studs cost us bout 900 bucks and the exhaust gasket shoulda cost me bout 500 but yeah both pricey exercises.

holly shitballs batman..

you got ripped off baaaaaaaaaad.

turbo -> exhaust gaskets cost about $27 from GCG.

manifold bolts.. if they were snapped, you could have had them drilled out for next to nothing, then new stainless bolts for under $50 for sure.

Yeah sorry I 2nd that - I had a new turbo/exhaust gasket done for my Stagea, added with a custom recut/weld on the dump pipe.

All up for the shops hassle was around $120 by memory(?)... plus the $1500 for the rest of the stuff I had done, like SITC install, SAFC retune etc!!

Btw - my Apex'i "Hybrid" 2ndhand fmic has a slight whistle, nothing much really, probably my dodgey-brothers home installation and ebay cut-up pipe kit (although I used 4ply hose throughout).

    • Hey, like MBS206 mentioned; I dropped off my short block and rotating assembly Monday. With a quick verification, he believes he can clear it up with just a hone and new rings but he will confirm once the rotating assembly is out. If I were you, I would either go stroker or just replace the block if it does need to be bored over to next size. Block is cheaper then forged pistons.
    • live in the UK, and London has introduced a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) that requires individuals to pay £13 if their car doesn’t meet the required emissions standards.   The standard specifies that NOx emissions must be less than 0.08 g/km (i.e., the vehicle must meet Euro 4 standards or better, which generally results in NOx levels of around 0.08 grams per kilometer).   I reached out to Nissan UK, and they advised me to contact Nissan Japan directly. Does anyone have contact details for Nissan Japan or any certifications of conformity that show the emission details or NOx levels for the RB25DET engine?   Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    • these guys recommended to me and supplied custom 4 inch mufflers, couldn't be happier. They will spec a muffler to your preferred level of sound and know RB's well.  https://spmufflers.com.au/
    • Yeah this used to happen to me every year and a quick call would at least raise the agreed value back up / reduce the premium, but usually both.    That said for the first time on the renewal this year our agreed values went up or stayed the same over the fleet and the premium came down so that was a nice surprise.
    • I don't even go that hard core. I just say "how do you expect me to stay, when you increase my premium, and reduce the value of the car?"   Then play a game of shut the f**k up. Most of the time it's a computer that did the adjustment, and the people will happily change it around for you.
