Can You Drive With A Worn Clutch?

My clutch in my 32 is starting to slip slightly as boost hits in 3rd and really badly in 4th now. Just wondering how long I can keep driving it before it becomes undrivable because I'm not ready to fork out money for the job yet.

Is there any way of getting the clutch to last as long as possible?

(Also anyone know how much a workshop generally charges to change the clutch? Also can you change your rear main seal at the same time?)

Don't push boost through the clutch, then it won't slip. Then it will last a bit longer.

It's probably a full day job, and the going rate is somewhere around $80/hr.

i'd say about $400-$500 in labour - I've heard people on here getting it done cheaper

Wind the boost right off.

Put the new one in urself. U and a mate could do it in a day.

if you do it your self, defently buy a universal clutch aliment tool from supercrap etc they are only $20 or thereabouts.

dont listen to anyone who reckons u dont need one!

If you can get access to one, an input shaft will do perfectly.

My mech reckens 300-400 for him to do mine. I have the same kind of slipping, but I have other issues in the gearbox that has rooted my clutch prematurely.

May I ask what the other issues are? Because my gearbox seems to be on the way out, not sure if it's related but.

My gearbox makes a metal rubbing noise (really hard to describe) when I back off the throttle in 2nd or 3rd. Also when I changed my gearbox oil there were huge metal parts attached to the drain plug. :lol:

sounds like some crunching has been going of in you have metal bits floating around

g/box could be on its last days
