I am looking at converting my R33gtst sedan to a manual, and I was wondering if anyone has had this done in Brisbane. What I really need to know is who you got it done through and are you happy with it and finally how much it cost including parts and labour.

I would really appreciate any information on this topic.

Cheers

Chris

i peronally would have just bought a manual

i know a few places that do it (toyko toys) and have done conversions for mates (admittedly, engine swaps at the same time)

the end product has always been unsatisfying with the car being sold on

hmm, I don't see how you can stuff up a manual conversion, and the conversion should be as per factory.. All the same points, brackets, etc are ready as per manual.

Sedans are rarer in manual, so it makes sense to buy an auto if that is all thats available.

What do you need to know anyhow? I am doing the conversion myself at the moment. Its an R32, but same bizz..

I know the basica on what need to change, and my list is;

Gearbox

Gearbox crossmember

Tailshaft

pedal assembley

clutch master cylinder

clutch slave cylinder

clutch

flywheel

bell housing

center console

dash cluster

computer

some fluid lines

EDIT: manual spigot bush

There might be other things I have forgot to mention, but I dont think that I have the mechanical knowledge to change it myself as the only car I am use to working on is my Valiant. (I have rebuilt the motor and changed many gearboxes in that.) So instead of attempting to change it my self I am going to get somone else (who knows what they are doing) to do it. I am hoping to get away with it for around the $3000 mark as I have heard that this price is about the going rate.

Please get back to me with any advice

some fluid lines

see if you can get the maltech line for $80 or whatever it is.. means you don't need the other bendy pipes.. Just goes straight from clutch master to slave direct.

Otherwise on your list, is what I've got.. so if there is anything missing, I am in trouble :P Starter, and mounting plate etc just transfers across.

I don't have any mechnical knowledge either.. but if you can't be bothered with the hours you will need to spend, thats fair enough. I'd have no trouble recommending Jason to do it, for probably less than a full workshop if you wanted him to.

If you can get it done for $3k, thats not too bad, as often the gearbox can go for $1500 on its own.. around $1000 for the rest of the stuff, and around $500 for labour would be fair.

you forgot to add the manual spigot bush

its not that hard to do ive done a few of these but not in a r33 ive done lot of swaps in silvias as i do rb conversion in to silvia if u can change a box in a val than u can change a box in a r33 the box is just abit bigger and heavier

Cheers for the Information guys, I am now in the process of trying to sell my Valiant so that I can pay for this exercise. So if anyone wants a VC valiant PM me and I will get back to you on monday :P . So with any luck I should be driving a manual within the next month or so.

You might be surprised how easy it is. Never done it on an R series car but I just did it with some mates on my C110 and it was not hard at all. A few more electric bits and computerish stuff but I can't imagine it would be too difficult. You might want the gearbox dust cover too if it is different auto/manual.

Are the centre consoles different ?

I thought against it as we wuold have to do it in the open and on grass, we dont have a shed, car port or concrete slab to do the work, so I am going to pay somone to do the job. Now where would the best place to purchase these parts as i rang All Jap and they are quite expensive there, so if anyone knows of a cheaper place could you please let me know.

Cheers
