If the backfire is a burble when you let off, this is 100% fine and happends with most larger exhausts...

Also, if the BOV is atmo, it will make the car run rich on gearchanges would could partially attribute to the backfiring

Is it backfiring as in BANG BANG or just pop pop?

Its just the one pop (smaller than a full on loud backfire but bigger than a burble)...I think your diagnosis of running rich is on the money cos I have also found a decent amount of sooty residue on the tailgate ledge which I think indicates the same...

Mate pretty simple, if your BOV is atmo (in other words goes psshhht!) then 99% chance its your problem. Nothing to worry about really. If it really bothers you then get a plumb back BOV or get rid of the AFM. BOV's on AMF cars tend to richen the mixtures when you back off the throttle which gives you your back fire.
