hey guys im insterested in people's opinion's on OS Giken clutch's my friends say there shit and dont last long but i really like the look of this new one they have just bought out its the STR2CD.

Sounds good lighter pedal than standard(25%) and can go upto 600ps! Machined surface discs to improve feel and slots to improve cooling.comes with light wieght fly wheel!

Ayone had any expirience with OS? there $2100 or can you reccomend better?

I like to stick with jap brand stuff and i cant use button clutches... well not in reverse anyways!;)

Also Nismo LSD's the one's you can adjust the torque settings 3 ways, anygood? and whats the go with 2 way diff's being noisy and shuddering and stuff??

I'm using the new OS Giken STR2CD at the moment and so far I can't complain. It has lived up to my expectations so far ( only been in the car for 3-4 months ). Before that I was using the OS Giken TS2BD which also worked really well and I even tried the OS Giken R3C ( Tripple Plate ) but that was just insane for anything other than drag racing !!

The STR2CD is equal pedal feel / pressure to a stock GT-R clutch once everything has settled. It's VERY drivable in traffic and locks up hard when you let go. I'll admit, it's a huge amount overkill being a 600hp clutch in a 300hp car but at the end of the day, it feels great, works great and I know my clutch will never slip !! :lol:

I believe that the clutches from Jim Berry would most likely be the best bang for your buck on the market but at the time I was replacing my clutch I didn't know enough about what he had available so I stuck with the OS range. A huge plus with the OS clutches is that everything but the flywheel bolts are supplied brand new as part of the kit. So, there's no sending your old parts away and waiting for them to come back and then wondering exactly what you're going to get, how it's going to fit and what the end result will be. With the OS clutch, you remove your old set-up, bolt in the OS and it works !!

As for life span of the last OS I had fitted, I purchased the TS2CD 2nd hand in Japan and just cleaned it up and fitted it. I used the clutch for about 3 years of hard driving and when I removed it, it still had 2/3 of the meat left on it so I could have re-fitted it, but I expected it to be worse and already bought the new one so just went ahead and fitted it. I still have the TS2BD and will put it back in when the STR2CD dies.

And just to clarify, I also purchased the R3C 2nd hand in Japan and fitted it before the TS2CD as an experiment, but that lasted all of 1 month ;) The R3C was snapped up by a mate who's still using it today in a 420awkw R32 GT-R.

kool thanks alot for you help i beleive i looked at you for sale add for that clutch so it sound like they pretty good might as well put that one on the list... but the over do it with saying the clutch is 40% lighter than standard i guess!

When they say it's 40% lighter, it's in reference to the STR2CD being 40% lighter pedal feel than the TS2CD ( and it is ). The STR2CD is actually very close to a stock GT-R clutch pedal pressure.

How many kays did you travel in the ~3yrs?

Any city/peak driving?

Hard to say exactly but I'd guess around 20,000km. It also saw 7 track days, about 5 skid pans & a bit ( not too much ) peak hour bumper-to-bumper use and was still going strong when removed :happy:

      I definitely agree with you there - I never click on content for cars I would never ever be able to get or compete with/against/be seen next to. Seeing a MX5 compete with a FD RX7 will make people upset though, for sure. Even in 2.5L Turbo form which is pretty grass roots. (or at least as grass roots as classic cars can be) Yes we're all classic car owners now.

      People don't always want builds that are overly expensive, or have engineering/registration/insurance issues and head aches that come with them Whilst big dollar builds, and complicated stuff is interesting to watch, there is only a tiny % of people who would actually use this information, or have the spare finances to drop on said builds, whereas the buy a cheap(ish) cool car, and make it better, with a average budget, that the average Joe or Jane could achieve will always be a winner in my opinion

      It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement. The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z. This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris' The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.
