Defected!

Hi guys,

I should have gone on the cruise on sunday, instead I decided to drive to whyalla early for work so as to be safe. Instead what happens... Our friendly law enforcement officers at Pt Augusta decided to have a blitz on all traffic heading north.

I did the usual breatho, and was about to get released, when over the CB's I hear them say, "just check the yellow car's exhaust..."

I was like.. F@#$%

After previously measuring at the exhaust shop I knew it would be a few decibels over but that was at the tip. Then after speaking to busky he reckons they had to keep the sensor atleast 1 metre away. Being only 5db over the limit I thought.. okay is this guy gonna let me off?.. No.. instead he ticks the VIS section in the form.. I was like F@#$

So I guess it's off to regency for me now..

Anyone got stock parts?.. lol

I need

R34

exhaust,

suspensions, ( i got the struts )

airfilter???

thanks

Duc

Thanks Brendan,

I might get away with secure podfilter, but if I do need I'll let you know... ( not sure if it will fit ... but beggers can't be choosers )

i though the adr's stated that the cop had to stand at the side of the road, on a 45 degree angle, and measure your noise, while you drive past doing the speed limit?

Id be filling out a complaint about how the police are enforcing the adr's that they are supposed to be following.

Sorry, do you know just how much over the legal limit 5dB actually is? Do the math...

:)

On the decibel scale, the smallest audible sound (near total silence) is 0 dB. A sound 10 times more powerful is 10 dB. A sound 100 times more powerful than near total silence is 20 dB. A sound 1,000 times more powerful than near total silence is 30 dB.

You would think eh?... NOPE.. VIS =vehicle inspection site.. in this case.. I rang them up and the transport SA lady said "NO" you have to regency for a full inspection...

No, I reckon RING AGAIN, and simply ask for your nearest inspection site. Simple. They WANT you to go to Regency, but there are other inspection sites (ie Sturt Rd, next to cop shop, Tues & Thur only s 9-3pm).

There would be one in the country, surely.

Just to expand on what 2rismo has stated.

Approx for every 3db, you double the sound level. So your car is almost 4 times louder than what is legally allowed.

But i do understand how you feel. My exhaust was very loud, i have since chaged it 3 times. I use to have a hi-flow CAT and connon muffler only. I now have a hi-flow CAT, two old-style shape (hi-flow) mufflers and one long resonator, and i have a feeling that i may still be over the limit ;).

shouldn't have to go to regency coz he's atleast 3-4hrs away

from there, whichever cop did it is a f*ker, maybe take ya

piece of paper to the cop station down there and see if they'll

change it, coz distance reasons

Bad luck mate - like I said yesterday, your stock R34 wheels are in my garage ready to be picked up Duc.

I also have the stock R34 air box sitting around if you need it, but secure pod filter should be fine.

I am sure Sean (MXTCY) would be fine with me lending you his springs.

I think FBImports might have a stock R34 2 door exhaust somewhere. Otherwise try mad34 (I think) - I think his is off the car and in his shed? Otherwise see if Rory Thompson has one to hire for fitting compliance cars.

    • Hi there, after a quick google search I found this topic as I am also relocating the battery to the boot of my 1998 GTT. I was just wondering how you got on with installing the re-routing and specifically the installing of the harness protectors? How do they attach? Are they just a simple "click-in" affair, or do they attach with bolts? Does the GTT have all the necessary fixing holes for them, for example, where they locate on the chassis? Any help you can provide would greatly appreciated.
    • Thanks mate, yeah I've heard that alot and i am definitely regretting using the 25 Loom now, i have gone through and traced all the plugs from the 20loom and re wired them into the 25 loom, I have currently got Crank, Fuel and accessory's working, just need to finalise the loom and run the wire for the Ignition (Spark) and it should be running, will update if i have any luck.
    • Cheers lad, when I head over there I'll give it a shot.
    • Stock less likely to carry one like that than urethane, but still can, especially if the bolts are not as tight as they should be. If it's making that much noise you should be able to use a hose as a stethoscope> stick one end in your ear, crouch down and wave it around the various possible noise makers and get someone to lift the front end at the guard lip.
    • Broken actuator rod. Could be one of a couple of them broken. Or, it's locked and the central locking actuator is broken/stuck or the actuator rods between it, the lock and the key barrel are jammed or broken similarly. You'll probably need a locksmith/mechanic who is experienced with using slim tools to reach down next to the window glass to manipulate the mechanism. That's assuming that it is not so severely jammed/broken that nothing useful will move.
